Orcon has finally come up with a plan to solve customer calling congestion. They piss their customers off so that they give up Orcon and shift to someone else. As a Genius customer I subscribed from day 1 to the 30Gb plan with free NZ calling.
All of a sudden since last month I am getting billed randomly for calls. Not a big amount but if you subscribe to a service that provides free calling it should be free.
It looks to me as if there is a problem with their billing system especially if no one answers or you hang up before they answer and then they bill you for the minimum period. I tried to explain this to a call centre person and it was like beating you head against the wall.  They kept insisting that I had subscribed to the lite Genius Service which did not include free calling. I tried pointing out that was plain silly as the majority of calls on the statement were free so why was I not charged for that. Also if they looked back at past accounts there was no calling charges despite 50 calls.
Logic is not something the call taker was familiar with.
Unfortunately I made the mistake when signing up with Orcon of letting them talk me into taking the free Genius option which means I have  a two year term before I can leave without it costing but one of the nice things in life is that one can wait.
Would suggest that other Genius users check their latest account to see if they are being charged for calls that should be free.

Nope, all good here, on Genius with "free" national calling. Only calls been charged for is mobile.

Was it the tech support team you spoke to or the accounts team ?
And what plan did you sign up for ?

Correct, you can mix and match but costs to do so :)
I was keen to get the 30GB and forget the calling, but wife made a good point that everyone we know is now in a toll area since we moved... yet we all have the same council ;) So free calling and 5GB it was...

Their billing is definitely screwed. Just got my invoice yesterday and even though we are paying for the National calling bundle on our copper line have been smacked for $90 odd back dated to December! Have logged a ticket (not ringing......what's the point) so may get a reply in the next week or two. It just one cockup after another.

Hmmm... On the Hibiscus Coast by any chance? It's sucked for years but now it seems just plain stupid... We live in "Auckland" yet apparently we don't.

Just an update on my Orcon bill. Thanks to forum and one of Orcon's managers I have received a credit for the call charges. No one seems to know how it suddenly started charging but at least it has now gone. We have several Orcon customers at my work and at least one other has also been charged and promised a refund. So if you can find the right person you can get problems solved.
Thanks Orcon and geekzone
