Anyone experiencing call-connection (not to be confused with registration against the local cell - that works fine) issues in Kapiti?

Does 2D have their own infrastructure out this way, or do they piggy back on someone else (VF?).

EDIT: Have discovered, there is a 2D cell relatively nearby (so, I'm guessing the logical connection all the way to the MSC is 2D?)

Hi, we are building in Kapiti. No ETA for the switch on as yet.

Cheers paul.

Raumati Beach not much better although I read somewhere that there were plans for a tower at Weka Park which is about 200m from me so things would be greatly improved then!

The new build should improve the signal in Raumati South. BTW make sure your phones network search is set to 'Auto'.

Ok. Which means I'm roaming on VF.
Coverage isn't that bad for me out here - well, 2G coverage anyway. I guess the problem I'm having might be at the MSC, or even earlier at the hand off.

As far as I am aware you can't roam on VF inside the Wellington 2 degrees coverage umbrella - hence the emergency calls only that kiwipawl is getting in Raumati South.

Hi Wongtop

Thanks for the info. I always wondered why my roaming didn't work in Raumati South.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

When you say "get emergency calls" - do you mean that you only receive/terminate inbound calls, or that you can only make outgoing emergency calls?

What make of phone do you use?

Curious. Where did you read that from?

That doesn't say there isn't any 2D roaming in Kapiti. Just that roaming occurs in areas where 2D's own service/cells are not available. Not in the main centres (like Wellington).

Once those Kapiti cells are active, then 2D subscribers won't need to roam.

EDIT: I meant roaming does not occur in the main centres (have corrected)

I get a message on my screen stating emergency calls only and I can't recieve or send anything. I don't know if it would work for a emergency call as I haven't had a need to make a emergency call yet.

One of the areas I get this issue is in a well know Raumati South bar/resturant and I don't mind being uncontactable there at times.

This is because your handset is camping on another network as your home network is out of range

Not handset related

Camping on XT you mean?
Which implies VF has no coverage at all where he's having the issue?
