Hi, do you need a special phone or can you plug a traditional phone into the provided router?

Also if I am not home, the others are not IT literate. Can the modem be resetted and set back up without a computer.

With the genius units, (aka "BoB's), you can plug a normal POTS phone into them.

I have the full Genius unit which comes with a phone, but also have my other cordless phone plugged into it.

In theory, yes, the router can be reset fully and will work - in theory.
If you just mean turned on and off, then yes, it wont lose its settings.

Is it possible to go back to traditional phonelines after using fibre and still use all the phone jacks in the house? Ie., if we move out and the others don't need the Internet or if everyone moves and a retired couple moved in.....

If the physical POTS line is still there, then no reason why not.

what i been told by someone getting fiber - they remove the copper from the street to your house as part of the install of fiber to the house - so no you can not go back.

I think i read somewhere on here that Chorus aren't removing the copper wires just yet.

I'm considering moving my Orcon plan to Genius with VOIP.
I couldn't find a definitive answer about what types of phones will or will not work plugged into the side of the Genius modem. I can see it suggested above that normal POTS phones work.
Three different person at Orcon have said to me that you have to use DECT cordless phones ! ..is that's just the ideal they're pushing forward and that's what they have to say?

I wanted to know if my older non-DECT cordless phones or my ordinary wired DTMF phones would work at all into the side of the modem, (of course I'd use an RJ12 "modular" to BT telephone plug adapter or a modular / modular plug cable).

...I just want to be sure that someone has actually tried 'wired' or non-DECT phones first hand?

And what about a double adapter and two phones plugged into the side of the modem?
One of them could have a long extension to a phone into another room.
Has anyone actually tried re-wiring the internal sockets of the house (after separating from the incoming phone line of course) back into the modem phone socket!
How much 'loading' the modem's outlet can handle would have to be considered evidently.

Any feedback appreciated
