2DegreesCare: Hi all

The upgrade has been delayed due to further testing. We do not have an ETA at this stage. :(

If I get more details I'll let you know.

Cheers

Further testing on your end? It's not yet with Samsung to be added to their release schedule?

I live in the UK. I don't want/need the snapper thingy. I just want the latest operating system. Please release me. This is totally ridiculous.

You should just use Odin to flash the latest firmware manually

'Ridiculous' ? Would you rather they released it without proper testing, and whatever bugs they found get found by users instead? You'd be bagging them even worse if that happened I'd say.

You have the wrong type of mobile device then. Go Nexus, or Apple if you want updates straight from the OS developer on time.

Or, as lokhor suggests, flash a ROM. Plenty of good ones out there.

I have an XT S3. Happily running CyanogenMod 10.

Even more so that you live in UK, and don't depend on your original carriers settings/features in any way - thats what they are testing for.

Find a UK ROM?

I've never flashed a ROM before because I'm perfectly happy with the stock ROM as supplied by Samsung.  I really like TouchWiz and all the other features that Samsung have added.

Does Samsung make their stock ROM available for downloading and flashing, i.e. without anything added by the carriers?  If so then I can see an advantage to updating my phone to use that, but if it means losing any of the nice Samsung features then I wouldn't be interested.

There are plenty of leaked copies around that are meant for other carriers. Most notable was the first Touchwiz Jellybean leak - meant for Poland.

Not sure what the latest leaked Sammy JB is, I ran Polish for a bit - very nice indeed.

Yes you can flash a completely stock rom on your device which will mean you get a clean Samsung build with no carrier modification

Ah, so it's not a clean copy, just from the first carrier to get it released.  And it might be filled with whatever extras that carrier decides to add.  So this time it was from Poland, next time it might be from India, and who knows where after that.  Rats, I thought it might be a nice clean copy (i.e. what Samsung send to the carriers before the carriers add all their junk).

Can you point me to where I can get this?  And I just need to use Odin to flash it?

Some of the roms are unbranded ones and some carriers dont add any bloatware either

And so the waiting continues.. I really hope it's out before the new year. If it weren't for the Snapper compatibility, I'd have kept using the JB ROM I flashed months ago.

Which one are you running. Excuse the question but how do you install. The zip file goes on the ext sd card but odin gets the tar file from the pc and this file can't be unzipped to the pc. Bit confused

The official firmwares are flashed via Odin. Custom firmwares like Wanamlite V5.1 which I'm running as flashed via Clockwork Mod Recovery.

To get clockwork mod installed, you need to firstly flash a kernel modified with root and clockwork mod. This is done via Odin. Once that's done, you'll have clockwork mod installed and you can then flash the custom rom.

I'd recommend checking this guide:

http://www.androidnz.net/2012/06/at-your-own-risk-how-to-root-your.html

Remember.. it's at your own risk.
