richms: Why do people think they are stuck with crap broadband for 2 years? The contract termination is only valid if you terminate the contract. If they terminate it by repeatedly failing to deliver what they say they will, then the termination penalty does not apply, otherwise I would look forward to taking them to disputes to pick up the $150 from them.

Spoken like a man with too much time on his hands :-) But seriously, it's really off putting to think the only way out of the new service I would be signing up to would have to go to small claims to cancel due to non-performance.No assurance of  winning, need to keep detailed logs and give up 3-4 hours off work and $35.

I suspect when you check the Slingshot broadband contract there will be no SLA's for them to 'repeatedly fail.'

I don't know about your experiences, but getting a Telco to admin they are offering a sub-par service and then getting the ISP to let you out of your contract is a painful experience. Those level 1 scripts are there for a reason.

At least Telecom did the honorable thing and canceled Big Time contract lockin en mass and allowed people to move to and from Big Time with no penalties.

Life's too short for bad broadband. I fear if this turns into bad broadband your stuck for a very long time, or having to go off to Small Claims.

Hmm I have a question for a Slingshotter if there are any around to read this:

I'm reserved on the new plan, no worries there....
I'm not a Slingshot customer currently.
I don't have a home as yet as I just got back from overseas and am living with my partners parents.
We are signing the lease on a house in Wellington today, but don't occupy it until September 4th at which time I will want to sign up to Slingshot.

My question is will I lose my spot in the queue given that I can't sign up for another 2 weeks or so. It's a very troublesome thought indeed, given that I was so stoked to be put on the reserved list in the first place :)

I doubt it. They apparently only got 1000 emails.

The business rules for All You Can Eat have been updated

Previously, a customer who signed up to All You Can Eat couldn't downgrade to a cheaper (i.e. capped) plan.

We've change this so that All You Can Eat customers can now downgrade BUT

The 24 month contract will remain on their capped broadband plan e.g. a customer who is 2 months into the All You Can Eat plan can downgrade to Pro and they?ll have 22 months remaining

If they decide to upgrade again to the All You Can Eat plan later on they need to enter a NEW 24 month contract

We're doing this because we've had some feedback that a 24 month contract on the All You Can Eat plan might be too long for some customers, esp. if their living situation changes e.g. moving flats, children leave home etc.

The ETF for All You Can Eat is only $149, but we?d rather our customers stay with us and pay a bit less on the Pro plan each month than spending the $149 ETF and going to a competitor.

Our customers spoke. We listened. After all, we want to offer our customers a service that meets their changing needs.

I was just about to post about calling up and asking this exact question and having a different answer from the forums and here you are :-)

This is excellent news, it's relieved some of my concerns moving to slingshot now.

Also you can get a static IP address on Residential plans including the All You Can Eat plan for $10/Month. This is excellent news - I'll be changing over at Home and then at work.

Ironically enough most of our traffic will be slingshot to slingshot trafffic for backups etc.

Thank you for listening Slingshot. You have won my business, now hopefully you will impress me with your service.

Thank you for posting that additional information AdrianD. Being able to downgrade to a cheaper plan (even with the 24 month plan still in place) is what will (has) swayed me to join up.

As an aside, if you move flat/house and intend to remain with Slingshot and on the All You Can Eat plan, does the 24 month contract period start anew?

If i was to downgrade it would be back to the plan I am on now, since the only reason I am getting a landline and calling it because it is needed for this plan, I expect that the ETF for those would not be applied right?

Thanks great news AdrianD, you will have to update the Slingshot website so that it says that as well
and while your there could you get a note added to Everyday plan, pointing out that it is a FS/128k plan unlike the other plans that are FS/FS but is listed as if it is a totally FS plan. It not transparent that there is a difference between those plans speeds and could almost be misleading.

All very good. Waiting for user speed results and I'll jump on the bandwagon. I guess as long as it isn't worse than the paid plans it'd be suitable.

otherwise will need to wait a month and also ensure tnz cancel my account right before end of month

Are you saying that the "All You Can Eat" Plan is capped at 128k upload? or is "Everyday" a different plan?

Quick Edit: I have realized that Everyday is another plan. The All you can eat plan is full speed both ways or it it capped also?

Hi hellonearthisman, the everyday plan is FS/FS. Slingshot have started provisioning UBA and the only services available on UBA are 256/128 and FS/FS.

The Starter plan though is 256, and the site should be updated to reflect that.
