menabassily: I just saw your posts, and lol we are all now waiting together for the next release.

By the way, the official 1.4.2 has been released in Poland, I saw it today:

1.4.2?  No thanks, I'd prefer 4.1.2 myself.  No sense in going backwards! Laughing

:) well despite that DoggNZ, I won't go back to 1.4.2, I meant 4.1.2

To be honest, I like software upgrades better than hardware rubbish. Once you get used to the phone, it's like 'Nah, I'm used to it' until you get an update or a new app or something.

This is why I am considering switching to Nexus the next time I upgrade, it doesn't offer that much space I know but It's only $450 NZD for the 16GB and it has everything I need except for the space. I can live with that.

I would recommend you guys follow this topic:
http://forum.vodafone.co.nz/topic/10575-jellybean-update-for-s3/page__st__300

JohnR is doing a good job (as usual) on getting people updated, despite the usual failure of service providers, but it seems Vodafone is at least offering more information on the ETA. Usually 2degrees doesn't have any idea of what's going on, but again if you call any of the providers call centers they won't be able to help much.

When you compare a $400 Nexus 4 ($299 USD from Google store) with Samsung galaxy S III for example ($850 in average) you will find that you are paying twice the price for nothing more than the ability to extend the storage using SD and some other minor features.

I have made my decision, and I am entitled to. I haven't been nagging about the update, but as a developer I love updates, and software upgrades, they are like treats to me.

Here it is, instead of paying around $1000 every 2 years for a top dog Samsung phone, I would rather pay something like $300-$400 every 16 months or so for a decent mighty Nexus. With all the updates, a superior software based device, I am more likely to be happier than with a superior hardware based device.

Just a thought.

^This.  I'm making the jump to Nexus because of this, as external storage isn't a massive deal to me.  Love my GS3, but can't wait for the N4.

I flashed the 4.1.2 Poland ROM over top of the stock 4.0.4 ROM and it's very nice.

Only problem is my phone is using battery about 20-25% faster than before.

So does the nexus get the update straight from google (as soon as they release it) and it doesn't need to be carrier approved.?

To be honest, I would gladly flash my phone upgrading it to the latest official version as long as it supports the Snapper touch 2 pay feature. How can we confirm this?? Do you know anyway we can find out what's needed and if it's in a specific rom or not? Any custom Roms that supports it?

We discussed this week on the NZ Tech Podcast this week that the 4.1.x firmware has been approved by both 2degrees and Vodafone. From what I hear that means it now goes through Samsung's processes and could be available in 1-2 weeks (let's hope Christmas doesn't impact it).

Ive flashed the international/polish 4.1.2 on my 2degrees siii and snapper is still available for download in the app store regardless of the csc changing in the process.

The app may be available but if the OS hasn't had the API included in the build Snapper isn't going to work. There also no 3rd party ROM's that will work because they don't include the API.

If you are using a ROM without the SIM Alliance API the Snapper app can be installed, and can be used to

a) topup Snapper cards
b) read Snapper cards

It can not be used as a Touch2Pay Snapper handset though because there's no way for the app to interact with the secure element in the SIM card without the correct APIs.
