For those of you whom cannot get Genius. I suspect the infrastructure where you live does not support it. You're Offnet, in which case you're lucky to be getting something that isn't Mobile Broadband. It is obviously more difficult and expensive for them to provide you with the service and thus the pricing reflects this.... i agree they should also be cheaper now too but you're tripping if you think you're going to be able to pay the same amount and get the same amount of data as Genius coverage Customers and you need to understand this. Also, chances are, and this is what will be really funny, the other ISPs, they aint gonna be of any help, they're gonna be hitting you with something other than what is advertised and available to the general Urban-living public too, If Orcon cant put you on a Genius plan, then it is more than likely that the other ISPs are gonna put you on an alternative and more expensive plan too ....believe it or not Orcon is not actually trying to shaft you guys. If anything you should be directing the angst at the Government, they're the ones responsible for our infrastructure.... but then of course the Government already has that one covered right.... that's what the UFB is all about.

Nvoid,

If you had taken the time to read this thread you would see that Genuis is not available to some of us, its an exciting product I would certainly try it, were it available.
Why they cannot provide it is of no concern to me.
I like others are not "offnet" I have a fully stable Adsl  connection.
The competitive plans we are asking for are not any different that offerings from other competitive providers.  To suggest we would or should not qualify for standard advertised adsl connections is naive.
As others that you claim are offnet have and will continue to churn to better offerings by competitive providers.

We have no angst to project to UFB or the government.  As they did not promise all there customers via email to all be prepared for exciting new plans that would benefit all.

Trip less think more

Jeremy

I can get genius I just don't want it I like having a Land line Ph when the power is out and don't say buy an ups get real why should I when I have perfectly working ADSL2+ and a land line for phone..
I just want Orcon to make up their minds about what they are going to offer us non genius users compared to those that are getting a largess of DATA from Orcon on genius at no real extra cost shoot I'd be happy to get double my 30GB DATA (for 60GB per month)

My mother is on telecom her standard monthly DATA pack got increased from 5GB a month (she didn't even use all that) to a much healthier 20GB for nothing nadda not one red cent extra

It's been months now and still no word from Orcon on whats going on

Hi guys,

A quick note from me – sorry about the lack of updates here.

We have been working on a range of things.

Firstly – we have been increasing the coverage of Genius, so if you wanted Genius, and have checked but couldn’t get it, it’s worth checking again.

UFB is rolling out at a great speed (so I hope you have checked whether these plans are available for you).

We’ve also been unbundling more exchanges, with more to come, and will have new LLU plans in the coming weeks that will match the Genius plans.

If you are on UBA, the wait will be a little longer, but we will get there.

Again, apologies for the delay, it’s a smallish team working on loads and loads of stuff.

I've spoken to Chorus techs outside my house doing some work and they said it could be upto 5yrs before it hits the street outside my house

as for LLU I'm 4.8Kms away from either the Taradale Exchange or the Onekawa Exchange and don't wish to be downgraded to 2.2Mbps again

I'm on EUBA via an cabinet just around the corner from me (8~900m away) according to Chorus techs

email sent which includes an uptodate UFB map and where I sit

You know you could have at least acknowledged him or thanked him for taking the time to post an update instead of whinging about it. They're not obliged to post anything on here and they generally do it in their own time. A little bit of gratitude, even if it wasn't exactly the answer you wanted, goes a long way.

Todate it's been like getting blood out of a stone for info on this from Orcon.  They're not interested in anyone who doesn't want to be on their Genius platform..

Totally agree. But with a response like the one that was given from Athlonite why would anyone from Orcon want to comment further?

Correct....and responses like those have made some company reps stay away from GZ publicly.

Even though the answer may not be in the time frame or context you want, at least show some decency and say thanks.

No company has to respond to anything on GZ, those that do, do it as a courtesy.

I know it can be frustrating trying to get information from some companies, but they cant always answer - sometimes its a matter of talking to the right person/department as well.

Quentin has taken the time to reply and given what information he can, he cannot do anymore than that.

Am also on the LLU service and am keen on upping my data levels.  Was lucky that got a deal when joining and got bonus 1Tb of startup data with 40Gb per month but am going through the bonus data a tad fast.
