So now that there's a pretty big security hole on the S3, I wonder how long it'll take to get a fix through the official update channels? The aftermarket ROMs will be all patched up by tomorrow.

 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35469999#post35469999

"Recently discover a way to obtain root on S3 without ODIN flashing.
The security hole is in kernel, exactly with the device /dev/exynos-mem.
This device is R/W by all users and give access to all physical memory.
This security hole is dangerous and expose phone to malicious apps.
Exploitation with native C and JNI could be easily feasible."

I'm still waiting for an official unlocked version from samsung directly, for one sold through DSE. I would have thought that that would have been released before specific networks. But to me there is nothing much to gain. However if there are security holes in ICS, then that is a worry.

This being such a critical security flaw, I think Samsung should pass on the update to all the handset straight away. Coz if it gets the telcos involved then 1st of all there would be a long long wait and while the long wait is going on...its leaving all the handsets that are running the official version more vulnerable..

This is more important than JB official version coming along.. whenever that comes along "via the official channel"..

2degrees sourced model, unfortunately your waiting for them to calibrate jellybean to a network that it already works on....
Personally im questioning if it a commitment issue or theyve hired someone strait from kindergarden

So all in all you will get it through 2degrees

Presumably this is JB and not just a compulsory fix for the security hole revealed earlier today?

Given its size, 337MB, I'd say it's JB.

My phone just popped up a message saying there was a "required update" available. Downloading now, 40% complete.
