Does anyone know if there is a map or timeline for Genius rollout available somewhere? I haven't been able to find anything on Orcon's website. Is it tied to cabinetisation?

I'm in Hamilton CBD with fibre sticking out of the ground at the end of our long driveway, and no Genius available. All of these sexy options, so tantalisingly close, and yet so out of reach!

I'm trying to gather info to weigh up my options, but I don't want to jump the gun if Genius is just around the corner, as it does look like a good deal.

I'm pretty sure nothing's been announced for data caps on non-Genius plans yet, but if I'm wrong, illumination on that matter would also be welcome.

Thanks :)

Hi Zub, we can provide Genius in Hamilton - have been able to since launch.
Can you please PM me your address and we'll see what the story is.
Cheers, Quentin

Dont know when/how/what exactly, but have heard from a little birdie there maybe some data changes on the horizon... hopefully across the board if true :)

When my 1TB plan runs out I wont be able to survive back on 5GB ;)

The big problem XPD is getting Orcon to commit to a when for data plan increases matching those of genius for us non-geniues users..... everything else is just pure speculation until then

True, but usually when Quentin and Cam on the Orcon Twitter say something is going to happen, it usually does within a reasonable time frame... although some users perception of "reasonable" is different from others :)

Hopefully its a win-win for Genius and non-Genius users :)

You know, I'd be reasonably OK if the overage charges weren't a usurious $2/GB. But if there are even better things than that on the horizon, I'll wait a bit.

Though, if I don't see a change to business plans, I'm either going to have to break my account into pieces or change provider.

I believe that's what I said 3 months ago!  2 months in with my new ISP and you poor people are still waiting...

quentinreade: Hi guys,

A quick note from me – sorry about the lack of updates here.

We have been working on a range of things.

Firstly – we have been increasing the coverage of Genius, so if you wanted Genius, and have checked but couldn’t get it, it’s worth checking again.

UFB is rolling out at a great speed (so I hope you have checked whether these plans are available for you).

We’ve also been unbundling more exchanges, with more to come, and will have new LLU plans in the coming weeks that will match the Genius plans.

If you are on UBA, the wait will be a little longer, but we will get there.

Again, apologies for the delay, it’s a smallish team working on loads and loads of stuff.

Great to hear an update - I'm an LLU customer hanging out for more data!

Hi guys,

Not sure if you have seen our announcement.

We now have three price points across LLU, UFB and Genius.

They are in a nutshell (but please check the website for the finer details):

$75 for 30GB, $89 for 60GB, $99 for unlimited. All with unlimited national landline calling (for calls up to an hour).

We think it’s pretty good, and will make most people happy.

But, the old adage of you can’t please all of the people all of the time will apply here to those on non-Genius UBA services.

We are looking at these plans – but we have a small team, so this review hasn’t been completed as fast as some of you would like.

Couple of things to note: Our LLU rollout and the UFB rollout continues at a decent rate – so you may be able to get an LLU service soon, or move onto UFB.

It is (in my opinion) also worth re-looking at your set up to see if Genius really would be viable for you.

We will have new non-Genius UBA plans sometime, but I don’t have a fixed date for you sorry.

For those who wonder why we don’t just make non-Genius UBA plans the same price, it simply comes down to the price we pay Chorus for the line.

In order of cost (cheapest to most expensive) it goes LLU, UFB, Naked (Genius), then UBA.

We just can’t offer the retail prices we are offering on LLU, UFB and Naked on UBA.

I hope that explains where we are at.

Orcon is committed to driving competition and innovation in the market – we think the moves we make benefit most New Zealand web users as a whole – so apologies if we haven’t hit the nail on the head for your personal requirements, but we are trying to do cool stuff and make a difference.

As always, we’ll have some new stuff out soon.

Thanks for hearing me out.
