nice job on unlimited data for $99 on UFB.

any word on traffic shaping (or other similar policies) for that plan?

Personally, I would actually prefer you do some amount of shaping of torrents otherwise we are going to have torrent users downloading stuff at 100Mbps clogging up the pipes at times when other people want to use things that require decent bandwidth like video streaming etc

More detail on how we will manage it:
http://www.orcon.net.nz/support/gfaq_page/i_have_an_unlimited_data_plan_what_does_this_mean_for_the_speed_of_my_conne
In short, two pools, one for limited plans, one for unlimited plans.

Quentin, thanks for updating everyone and keeping at the task - some of us are quite vocal and I know sometimes it's tempting to just give up.

Buuuuut (there's always a but) Genius has had no less than three plan updates without any change for UBA pricing. When you comment that you have a small team so you can't progress plan changes all that quickly, the first thing we think is that the small team has been dedicated to Genius plan changes and haven't even been looking into UBA pricing, which is - well, it's a tad insulting really.

I've been with Orcon for many years through thick and thin, and I got to admit I am seriously considering taking my ball and moving with it. It seems "new Orcon" cares a lot less than "old Orcon" about the customers who made it what it is, focusing all its attention on those Genius customers, and ignoring those of us who, for whatever reason, can't get (or do not want to get) Genius. You refuse to offer Genius to me, so even if I did want it, I can't get it despite being in zone.

(FYI, your marketing claims that I own Orcon.  So get right on that mmkay?)

so there are no no larger plans for customers who do not want to be bogged down by the inevitable 'torrent' of vampires on the unlimited?
biggest non-shaped plan is now 60GB?

I joined LLU on a deal and get 40Gb per month.  Also got bonus data pack which I will use up and then change plans (unless someone can tell me if I get to keep the bonus if I up my base plan).

Do know have a tricky question for myself, I was looking at the 200Gb but now have a choice of 60Gb (no speed issues) or the unlimited (where it may be limited).  Hmm, I have a little while before I need to decide but what do people think is best?  60Gb or the unlimited (I know the tech details but looking for personal options).

Hi,
Kyanar - can your please DM me with your address and username - I'll see what we can do for you.
As for the questions around plans and speeds.
We want to keep this really simple, so went with three plans, that we hope will appeal to most.
Our unlimited plan is our hero plan. It's in our interests to make sure that it performs well, and that's what the team has been instructed to do.
I am sure people will be offering feedback on here as to the speeds they are seeing, and that will help inform you.
I'll be moving over to it, and will happily post about speeds, but you'll probably appreciate it from someone outside Orcon more :)
Thanks!

Unlimited data will be ruined by the idiots that sit on torrents all day downloading gigs upon gigs of trash.

I'm happy with 200GB - I hope that doesn't get shifted to unlimited. I already only use about half of my cap so unlimited holds no appeal to me at the moment. Especially with slower speeds.

My flat has just looked into this as well, and would love to test it out for a month or two, but without the option to fall back on 200gb will probably pass it up.

I had a pretty good experience on Big time when it launched and was lucky to not see any of the major performance hits others had, but am not sure I want to risk it just yet.

We were also informed that by changing we would be up for another 12 month contract....not something i think we want to commit to, but could suit others.

So I'm currently on the 1TB Genius plan. Can I stay on this plan and will I be in the "limited" bandwidth pool?

I'm happy to pay more rather than deal with the inevitable slow down of the "unlimited" pool.

You current plan won't change, and you won't be put into the limited bandwidth pool. This pool is only for unlimited custmers.

I wouldn't stress about the P2p'ers.

We have a big PeerApp cache which caches P2P. It will improve the speeds of the P2P'ers and keep our tubes free for other customers.
