Anodyne: With the new router and port reset my stability is perfect and speeds flying - over 40Mb/s down. Speeds were good with the VB104W (about 30Mb/s) but stability poor.

That's a decent at lest 10Mbps more than the VB104W, I used to get just over 10Mbps on my old ADSL2+ connection alone.
Totally going to buy one, What VDSL modem did you buy? and how much $???

for 10Mbps more its totally worth it!

SiFFiN420: Finally had an issue where I was connected to the internet and yet we weren't getting any website to load, like it was hanging or something. Weird.

We restarted the VDSL modem, only to find we got the DSL light to work, but was unable to connect to the internet.

Slingshot had to get Chorus to reset my VCI profile on the line.
It took hours to complete on Sunday.

I was able to connect to the internet again, but same issue as before, connected but won't transmit the down data via WiFi.

I ended up hard resetting the whole device and resetting up to get everything working again.

I had a similar issue last night, just over a week after getting my VDSL connected - The DSL sync light was green and steady, the internet light was green and everything seemed OK but I just couldn't get any pages to load and Netflix wouldn't stream (much to the disgust of one of the small people in the household). I couldn't even connect to the modem admin page at all.

This kept happening over a period of a few hours and the only way to resolve was to reboot the modem, but then it would happen again. Finally I called SS CS and spoke to someone there who got me to try a few things. While I was talking with her everything went quiet, almost as if she had hit the mute button; and then the line faded in and out and the call dropped. She called back and then all I heard was some extremely loud clicking - almost as if a tech was working on the line (she assured me no one was). NSA?!

I managed to speak with another CSR and he thought it might have been an IP conflict on one of the devices that had caused everything to lock up(?), so he got me to change to a static address on one laptop and then reboot modem to see if the issue was resolved. It seems to be at the moment but will keep an eye on it.

I think my question got lost...

Has anyone has any success using the samba sharing on this router with accessing it with Windows 7 Home Premium?

I've tried a bunch of stuff, but I'm having no luck.

As per my several posts on recent pages in this thread, my new router is a DSL-N66U. I used the stability adjustment suggested a couple of pages back in the =thread by Item, which seems to have a very positive effect on speed.

Annoyingly, my speed has now dropped back to its pre N66u speeds over the last week.

I don't know whether this is indicative of congestion or other issues at the Slingshot end or maybe my tweaking the stability settings has had an effect on my profile settings..?

In any case, it is annoying, but glad to hear you are getting the boost! Be interested to know if it stays that way for you or whether you too have the drop...

I screwed around with this for a while too and have arrived at the conclusion that since the page was hidden to start with, the feature is probably disabled or not functional - at the very least, it is unlikely supported.

I went out and bought a Synology NAS and have never been happier with a NAS.

Well it is still happening now, so fingers crossed they will find and fix something!

ah well if its still happening now, thats a good thing! means theres actually a fault to fix! (assuming your modem didnt just crap itself with a accidental jolt or something!)

So!

1) Tech checked the cabinet, said we were on the wrong profile, tweaked and we were back up to 42Mb down again from 30. Not sure exactly what is changing as my wife is at home and I am getting the information second hand, but I didn't think they could manually affect the DLM profile here, so perhaps this is something different?

2) He is now crawling under the house and berating the original engineer for not having run a new cable when I got the original VDSL upgrade! I did push him on this at the time, but he insisted the current cable was sufficient and just installed a new master-splitter. Looks like I am hopefully getting the job done properly this time.

good to hear your getting a proper installation done. should have been done originally.

this whole profile thing sounds interesting, as techs cant do much with your profile on vdsl since DLM controls it all.
