well the change over date (27th Sep) for me going genius has come and gone and not a peep was heard from Orcon on whether or not I should be able to plug the modem in or if there's been a problem with the change over

I see this as a bit of a poor start for someone who didn't really want genius in the first place, way to assuage my worries about doing so Orcon

Is the new $99 unlimited UFB apply for the 30/10 Mbps service or the 100/50 Mbps? or both?

If thats the case, why would anyone not choose the 100/50 service for the same price?

Only for the 30/10. You pay a bit extra for the 100/50.

Thanks, One more question, Im in East Tamaki and UFB has been available for a few months now, approx distance from green cabinet on front lawn is 5 meters. Approx how much would connection/installation cost?

We pay Telecom $105 now for ADSL with a data cap, so a saving all round and should give us a faster connection without monitoring the household usage.

should be free, but depends on what you want to do inside your house

(for example, if you want the ONT at the back for whatever reason, then there might be a charge)

When I changed over to Genius a couple months back I never got the email to say 'go ahead and plug it in' like you're supposed to. I just waited for the phone line to die and then plugged it in, and away we went.

that was the problem the landline didn't die but after making another Ph call to Orcon I was told to just go ahead an plug the modem in and I should atleast have the internet going ........well that wasn't a good idea not only wasn't the internet not going but it took a further ph call to orcon to get it sorted.... Apparently I was getting a wrong IP address for the gateway which should have been in the 64.234.xxx.xxx range but was actually in the 10.254.xxx.xxx range which shouldn't have happened......

So now it's all up and running it seems to be going quite well so far

Not sure if anyone's point this out already but in reading the Orcon 'Fair Use' policy for the unlimited plan the following section jumps out and bites my *rse:

If, in Orcon’s sole opinion, your usage is so heavy that it materially exceeds estimated use patterns over any month or Orcon believes that your usage of our services will adversely affect the quality of the service received by other customers, then Orcon may (in its sole discretion):

· de-prioritise your access to the network;

· apply charges to your account for the excessive and/or unreasonable element of your usage;

· suspend or restrict access to your service; or

· terminate your service.

Where reasonable, Orcon will provide you with notice before suspension, restriction or termination. If we terminate your services and you have agreed to a fixed contract term you may have to pay the applicable early termination fee.

So basically, without notice, Orcon can charge you for 'excessive' usage, and they're not telling people what they consider excessive....

Ya... sounds fair to me!!

I'd be very surprised if they charged you without communicating with you first.
