It is my belief that here in NZ, we suffer from over-subscription of broadband services in a lot of urban areas, and thus - poor speeds. Now that large segments of our cities are having xDSL migrated from area exchanges to roadside cabinets, raw connection speeds should not be a problem.

Perhaps Slingshot could comment on whether there is a problem with wholesale bandwidth in/out of some (if not most) of our exchanges, and what difficulties are faced delivering consistent service to subscribers.

Speedtest on my Slingshot Unlimited plan - Chartwell, Hamilton @ 7:45pm

2 weeks ago, I could barely get 2mbit through Telstra - :(

Just don't group all ISP's together when you summarise this theory. You might also want to define "wholesale bandwidth" as Chorus aren't the only option when it comes to backhaul.

The ISP game is presently a race to the bottom, and the simple reality being something has to give if you're signing up to deals that may well be losing an ISP money. Right now it seems that speeds have been the first casualty.

Slingshot's target market is lots of data for the lowest price, for people who don't care that much about peak time throughput. They had to change upstream transit provider to keep up with demand:

You can't draw an accurate conclusion from two ISP's that have known problems.

Telecom, Snap, Vodafone, Maxnet, Xnet aren't having the same issues currently.

Hi,

Slingshot is not actively causing bandwith issues and if you look to the previous page on this forum I am requesting information from customers affected by Peak time congestion. As I have only had Five responses over four different Mediums I have not submitted any data, nor have I noticed a trend. Places like this are a great opportunity to have ISP issues resolved promptly by a professional and not with the helpdesk so please contact me via private message with the information requested so I can resolve this issue.

Yes I got the same issue in Auckland city central. I just pm you.

Speed is less than 2mbps nationally and 0.3mbps internationally

If I try this plan and the speeds aren't good in my area can I change to another Slingshot plan for no/little cost?

Yeah you aren't locked into a specific plan, you can change between plans once a month, the only change in price being the different monthly rental.
