ChevronX: I think games, such as UT and Quake 3 should be a given. Possibly steam servers for games such as Team Fortress 2 and Call of Duty, although their are the Orcon servers I think they are based in Auckland and are mostly full during populated hours.

There is also my personal favourite, Stargate - The Last Stand ( http://www.moddb.com/mods/stargate-the-last-stand )

People are STILL playing UT and Quake 3? It's 2012!

Yeah, I host two Ut2004 servers in Auckland under 'unreal.net.nz'. Sure the community is dying but a few of us die-hard players still make time every week

JAYJAY: Christchurch and Quake3. Seems fitting.

Also, TF2. Always good to have NZ servers.

AviZ:
AviZ: yep well i would buy gameserver left right and center if the price was right.

perhaps $2 a slot or less

zeta game servers are about $1.60 per slot but they are aussie too

I had an auckland based server from them and never had a ping over 100 most of the time

I think standard games like CS:S, CS 1.6, Minecraft, Team Fortress 2, Battlefield and maybe a few teamspeak/mumble servers to add on would be awesome :)

If you guys were to host a Minecraft server - *that* might be interesting. I guess it would take a lot of work and some big iron to host and maintain a persistent, 100-slot world, but I'd certainly jump on and build me some derp towers.

Derp towers = Win.

Only problem with public MC servers is trolls :(

I'd love to play on a server with lots of people but would need to do some crazy permissions to make it work properly.

As a number of others have said, BF3 server would be good, even better latency than playing on Aussie based ones then. :)

BF3 servers are impossible to get, I've asked EA what the procedure is for an ISP or group to apply for server licenses and they've basically said that there's no way you can get them as you have to be a authorized hosting partner.
Which might I add you had to be before Bad Company 2 was released.

Theres also more BF3 servers than NZ needs already with ON3. They seriously have 10+ empty servers 24/7. Also the ping rates are really good, i get 20ms on a Slingshot AYE plan here in Blenheim

Surely that's an indicator that BF3 hasn't sold very well in NZ, maybe people have bought it not liked it and simply returned to playing BC2, I remember playing BC2 on PC late last year on ON3 servers and there was a healthy number of NZ players even during the day time, hmmm. :S
