Thanks again Ben. A review will be forthcoming. This is a well-timed prize as my old ATA melted down a couple of weeks back.

A few comments on my nice new prize of a Linksys SPA2012 analog telephone adapter. I have a network of cordless phones scattered around the house so this was a great solution to press them back into service again (I have naked VDSL2, so no phone line) to complement my single home office IP phone on VFX.

My provider of choice was 2talk in this case, and the instructions on their web site made it a simple process to get everything up and running. The default IP address of 192.168.0.1 was a nice touch that made it simple to avoid conflicts with my router (192.168.1.1) during the set up process (OK, it only saved me a few minutes of mucking around). 2talk offers a slightly better quality product called 2talk+ that I think has a noticeable improvement in voice quality, although not as good as a dedicated IP phone. 2talk+ also offers the G.722 wideband audio codec, but sadly the ATA doesn't provide this feature.

A nice little box (smaller than a standard sized router) that is happily making and taking calls. And if I wanted to, I could connect up a second phone or fax machine (remember fax machines from last century?). The ATA also offers a single ethernet port for connecting an additional device. Still playing around with the configuration web page so I might uncover more useful features later.

Cheers,

David.
