j4ckel: is it just me or has this Hole new FIBRE OPTIC scenario gotten out of hand and now our dsl adsl.... is becoming that of the old" (dial up) ???

I have a feeling everyone is going to be on these kinds of speeds and push forward to Fibre optic..... just throwing ideas around..

Fibre Optic = Faster Speeds, Faster Downloads, Faster Usage, Faster Cap Gone, = more $$ For ISP.

Rather than blaming a technology it would pay to read the last 30+ threads in this forum and see if you spot a common topic. Speeds and Slingshot are a very common complaint. Some would argue that if you pay peanuts for a connection you have to accept that speed issues may occur.

I would suggest PMing your account details to Slingshot (Ben) Its quite possible that its a profile issue that can be fixed in 24hours especially if you have just moved.

Only way to know is for you to look at your account/Line tho.

Yip. Wrong line profile and handover type. Migrating you to the correct one now.

Should be resolved in 24 - 48 hours

You really shouldn't post these details publicly online, use the email button on the right of each post for the user you are trying to contact.

For those that don't understand - what's a line profile and handover type please? How is it decided who has which/what? Can we check this ourselves?

Line Profile:
This is eventually a preset of rules that best suit a range of basic line conditions. This is a profile set at the phone exchange, Some people who are far way from the exchange need a different profile to the average user.
The same goes for users too close to the exchange they may need a profile that best suits users close to the exchange.

For those that still don't understand:
Imagen your in a big field and you want to talk to a friend thats standing about 100meters away from you, Talking at your normal volume your friend wont be able to hear you, You will need to Increase the volume of your voice so your friend can hear you. The DSLAMs or MSAN your connected to isn't able to figure out how far way you are and it needs to be told what to do, This is a profile change.

Now for those that are close to the exchange, Imagen that your friend's ear is about 2cm from your mouth and then you shout at them, its very hard for your friend to understand what you are saying you need to lower the volume of your voice then your friend can understand.

Handover Type:
Your ISP will choose what handover type you are on, most ISP's don't give customers a choice as to what handover they are connected to.
There are two common types of handover's: bUBA - Basic Unbundled Access - Telecom Wholesale or eUBA - Enhanced Unbundled Access - Also Telecom Wholesale. I won't go into the differences between the two becuase I could do a 2 hour lecture on the differences however in some cases eUBA is could be better then bUBA but not always.

All ping and speed issues affecting Auckland customers should have been resolved this morning.

Please let me know if you are still having issues and I will deal with them individually.

Thanks,
Ben
