How many other companies, even small one man band lawn mowing companies, send "post it" notes for ANYTHING? I thought the original post was just a one-off and someone was bypassing a system so the customer received the modem quicker but if this is an actual process, I would not touch Snap if someone thinks is acceptable in this day and age.

this network password is not a big deal and certainly not the end of the world.

ADSL is one of the first services set up for a person that requires a password, its how they initially get online, they then sign up for many services after this each asking for a password. We don't live in a perfect world so yes people use the same password.

Especially as password managers were not common 5 years ago.

Its not just the network password, its also the one used to access their website which holds call history etc.

There is a very large and popular NZ website that stored passwords in plain text for many years ;) Believe this is no longer the case, tho.

I don't see the problem here. My ISP login password is different from all other passwords I use online. I've had other ISPs send letters with setup instructions which included the username and password to log in. These were sent in envelopes via the post, no signature or anything required.

I think the problem is that it was both his adsl password (which I would expect to be generated\readable by ISP and no big deal) as well as his snap SITE password, indicating they're likely storing user created passwords in clear text; that's a bit of a no no, though yeah probably more common than people realize. And not really the end of the world IMO...

The real moral is: use different passwords for different sites\services. At the very least use different passwords (or two factor authentication or similar) for your important services (banking, main email accounts, etc)

I for one don't like the fact that snap employees have the ability to see my password..

Thanks for pointing this one out...

TBH its kind of rude, as the snap adsl/vdsl/webmail passwords are the same (in my case) ...

To me, thats the same as someone opening mail from the bank,.. it's not on

i cant see why people are getting so upset that Snap can see your password, what are they going to do with it, and im not being smart, i would really like to know what they would do with it.

I dont recall the password being on the post it I got on the box. I was more worried about the modem being unwrapped and rattling around in the box making cardboard dust and covering it in that and rubbing the spark eroded finish smooth where it is in contact with the cardboard.

But come on peoples, Ralph has stated

I'd like to apologise for any errors in the postage and handling of the Fritz!Boxes. We are currently reviewing this process and the way that Fritz!Boxes are configured and sent.

So why continue this on, it like flogging a dead horse (nothing against horses :) ) - we all know that ralph is good as his word, and when he says it being reviewed then I for one believe him..

Probably with my password they were like "oh sod this, I will just copy and paste it" since I use lastpass to make decent ones for things. Long decent ones.

IIRC snap had a problem with their signup with the password length on the fields.
