Well the Royal Commission are sitting at present and still no Live Stream via Snap. Hopefully Tandem / Royal Commission / whoever else is involved actually get it resolved before the end. This is week 7 of 8 for the commission and it has been down for 1.5 of them.

Obviously - no progress from and end user point of view - Live Stream still not accessable on Snap.
Unbelievably disappointing really that you cannot watch it via the "ISP of the Year" and all the buck passing - sounds just like the Enquiry I am trying to watch! Rather ironic I suppose.

quakeguy: Hello Murray,

Tandem's content delivery partner made a change on or around the 25th of July, that caused issues for both this content and iSky for Snap users.
So while Tandem themselves aren't causing a problem themselves - the place that distributes their content is.

I realise this is frustrating. So I'm currently pushing the content delivery provider to resolve this. I won't name who that is.
Hopefully, we should have some resolution, soon.

Murray,

http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/olympics/7424010/Bolts-dash-too-much-for-some-iSKY-customers

We're being screwed! This is the same content delivery network used for the Canterbury Earthquake Royal Commission stream - it's certainly not working 'smoothly'.

I'm pushing things from our end. But we're not passing the buck. The fault lies with the guy providing the content - we are not the only affected ISP - and we're having to create workarounds, for the faulty content delivery.

Maybe the media need to be made aware of the "wider issue".
I suspect the Olympics / Royal Commission will be over and nothing will have been resolved, just the sannoying customers will have gone away.

Here is the update I have received from the Royal Commission:
-------------------------------------------------------
We have just received an email from Tandem Studios to say that their upstream provider (Orcon) are in urgent negotiations with Snap to resolve the issue. I also rang Snap yesterday to confirm that Orcon have blocked Snap from the website and Snap confirmed this to be so. However, as per the forum comment below I understand that Snap are also being block from accessing other sites. This does appear to be a provider problem which requires pressure from end-users to resolve. We are certainly doing all we can to force our providers to negotiate and resolve the issue and I'm sure you are doing likewise with Snap.

The Royal Commission wishes to provide an open and transparent hearing process to the public and it is distresssing to hear that members of the public who wish to access the hearings into the collapse of the CTV building are unable to do so.

Orcon have advised Tandem that they regard the issue as top priority and are hopeful of a resolution today or tomorrow. In the meantime we hope you are able to find an alternative means of viewing the hearings.

-------------------------------------------------------
Now I expect no chance of it being resolved!
Two weeks and this is the point we are at - it is beyond a joke really.
As others have said - the media seem only to be interested in bashing Telecom - otherwise there is no interest from them either. (I did send the Chch Press a message - no result)

They are saying end users need to put pressure on them? Maybe they need to find a new provider, so everyone can access it.

I have logged a call to The Beehive for the SOE Minister (Tony Ryall) as Orcon are owned by Kordia...as SOE. I am awaiting a reply.
I find it unacceptable that an SOE is effectively bloccking a Royal Commission from being seen.

Is there a reason given by them for the block, and is doing that even lawful?

No reason has been given hence my call to The Minister - not that I'm holding my breath anyone will call me back before the hearings are over.
(Or that The Press will follow up either!)

I appreciate the gesture! But it's almost certainly not malicious.

Orcon have a policy to avoid transiting traffic from their Christchurch-based CDN up the country and down again (this would be inefficient).

Unfortunately, they are also providing our network a route to the Christchurch-based CDN at APE, which means our network will use it... creating a block scenario.

I'm hoping we have this resolved, permanently, this afternoon - we've just made changes at our end, and are waiting for Orcon to do the same.

Cheers,
Tim

I think you need to understand how complex this type of networking is and the politics that goes with it before you can make statements like that Murray.

Hmmm - well until Tim's reply above no-one was saying what the real problem was and I was advised by The Commission to keep the pressure on. Snap emailed me to say it was out of their hands without saying what the real problem was: The quote from them is below -
--------------------------
Have spoken with one of our network engineers - At this stage we are unable to persue the issue further on our end.

The reason for this, as was given to me was that the upstream provider for this website have effectively blocked Snap.

I have been told to advise you to get in further contact with the website owner to resolve the issue.
--------------------------
Therefore I have folowed their advice and the path it has led me.

Well the Beehive wins - just had a call from the SOE Ministers Office and they are now going to talk to Kordia / Orcon to see what the problem is. (Live Stream still not working.

Hi Murray,

Okay, this should now be resolved. Again, our apologies for the time this has taken.

Thanks,
Tim
