Moral of this story - 2degrees support may be slow in response, but they have always been able to sort out an issue. Contrary, Vodafone over the years with my young family we have found them to be often the worst support you could possibly imagine, and if something goes wrong, its almost always the customer at fault, not Vodafone.

Regards,
Al.

Dratsab: As I was reading through the thread I was thinking exactly the same as these comments. However, things tend to shake out over time and it'll be interesting to see how this competition goes long term. Rightly or wrongly I tend to look at electricity companies as a clear example of where "competition" isn't exactly doing much.

Offtopic (again)
Hmm, something is happening when Nova can turn up at your door and prove they can drop electricity rates + give $100 credit as an incentive. Makes you think somebody has to pay, and its either us paying too much for power, or perhaps they recoup on demographic data thats collected from each new customer. Dont know.

Price is one thing, but quality can be another. The fact that you can get telecom quality at 2Degrees price point is a fantastic outcome

Thanks all for your comments and feedback.

Al,

We'll always be pushing to bring better, and fairer, mobile value to NZ and if something goes wrong on the Customer Care front, or anywhere else for that matter, we'd like to know about it.
Please PM me if there's something you want me to look into.

Re App:
Suggest read Review by Glenn Parker on Play - he has it summed up. My comments for what they are worth:
No exit eg have to [return] until app closes, or press [Home] button.
Home page expect to scroll for values it doesnt do this; but a more sensible approach is credits summary on home page. At present user has to select item change screen, then change back - way too convoluted eg six operations for getting balance.
Uninstalling.

I would love about 2G or possibly 3G/month so I could catch up on some TV watching while sitting in a cafe around town. Mostly it would be Hulu+ but some Netflix also.

Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD.  https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd  PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.

Just be glad you have these options. For those of us stuck on an older telecom contract with only a gig on it and no options to add more the only solution is to carry a wifi hotspot on prepay 3g and use that for data intensive things keeping the miserly 1 gig for day to day tweeting and facebook updates.

While its great to see these new plans available, people on older plans are still stuffed.

Surely you could negotiate with telecom to move across to a new equivalent level plan?

Plan always was to break the contract in month 13 and move off the plan since it comes with all the needless voice and SMS, but the change to roaming prices has made remaining on a telecom contract viable if I am going to be travelling so its a tough decision.

Really wish they would make smart phone plans that are more on the smart and less on the phone. The skinny plans get you a really good deal, as do the various $19 plans compared to the smartphone 100 plan. I can spend $38 on my other smartphone and have the same gigs that I do on my $100 plan.

Will be interesting to see what happens when the promo period is up. I should have some credit built up on my mobile hotspot sim that I have on vodafone freebees at the moment so can change back to one that takes addons and stick it into my phone to use the credit up.

That is the way a contract works. You agree ahead of time what price you are willing to pay for the service for a set period of time. If the price in the market changes yours stays the same. You get the benefit if rates go up, but you lose out if rates go down. It's the same thing with fixing a remortgage rate for x years.

Yeah, but when paying the break fee and moving to prepay will get more and save you even including dividing the break fee over the remaining contract, it really does show that things have signifigantly moved since the contract was good value.

If in broadband zone, no one completes with $100 for 12 gigs, 6 months to use in, approx price.

44 megs a week at $4 a week no where near value.

Free skinny to skinny only deal for few months, i'm not buying new phone, slim for temporary deal.

Not big texter so 9 cents verses 20 cents, i'll stick with 9 cents thanks.

I'm very happy with my 2 degrees moblie, have tested it with wifi hotspot on lap top and pages loaded pretty quick.

Except 2 degrees 3g network is worse than vodafone thanks to them using their best frequancies for an obsolete 2g network. At least skinny is ontop of telecom which is the best network.

Once they all get hold of the 700MHz and start to build out some LTE then perhaps 2degrees will provide indoor data coverage. While edge on 2degrees will at least load a webpage, unlike GPRS on vodafone, both are pretty annoying when you have a 3g device and no signal to use it on because you are not near a window.

It is a shame that skinny still force you go buy the base $4 bundle before you can add the $8 for 600 megs addon, but 600 megs on the 2degrees deal is going to cost you $19, so you are ahead there - except that since skinny is weekly you dont have to stuff around with multiple addons like you do with monthly ones.
