Thanks 2Degreescare for clarification on the automatic $19 combo.

The one I have here was running Gingerbread 2.3.6 when I checked last night. The low res screen is pretty ugly, but then I'm comparing with my SGS2 which isn't a fair comparison. In the very limited time I looked at it, certainly it seemed responsive, robust, and looks like great value.

Tivo upgrades to operate with the new OzTivo EPG, support and service. Over 400 performed here so far. See: www.hillcrest.net.nz

As above, the screen does let it down and animations are pretty clunky, but for the price its fantastic value (at $45 from Noel Leeming!)

Would hate to use it every day, but it will suffice as a substitute while my Galaxy S2 is being fixed

Picked up one of these at Noel Leeming today. Not a bad phone for $45. No luck so far with trying to get root access, has anyone picked one of these up and managed to root the device?

Scores 1200 on quadrant - not bad for a phone under 50 - didn't realise it had an sd card with it until it was mentioned here - sure enough 2gb onboard.

My son is pretty happy because it plays minecraft something a lot of budget devices won't do.

Camera is pretty atrocious, although no flash/LED doesnt help.

Well for $45 I was tempted as well. And I am pleasantly surprised, a very nice little phone. However, being a texter, I have been unable to find where to activate the "predictive text" it is advertised to have. So at the moment, I will probably be sticking to my samsung clamshell phone for ease of texting. I have not mastered texting with one hand on the new touch phone. If in a few days I decide to stay with the clamshell, I'll just pop it onto tm, and see what happens.

I was in Parallel Imported today and they had a number of these phones in their original 2Degrees boxes, priced at $149 and described as being made by Huawei. Research I've done so far seems to suggest Huawei are at least somehow connected to these phones. One of the major limitations is the limited onboard storage of around 165MB. Even when installing everything you can on the SD card, it won't take long to fill the onboard storage, but you can hardly complain at the price. It even looks pretty classy.

This is definitely NOT an Huawei phone, nor is it ZTE. The screen - when compared to an SGS2 is never going to look as good, but why compare a 500 dollar phone with a sub 100 device. For the $$, the Smart Touch's screen is pretty darn good, is very responsive and accurate. A 2.0 MP camera, is simply that, 2.0MP not a 5 or an 8. This device ticks many boxes for being reliable, great battery life, and doing what it has been designed to do.

few bugs so far and I havent even got it online.

FM radio defaulted to US so .2 spacing so no stations. changed to NZ and it misses the end of the band where LPFM is. so europe it is.

shows a 4 letter code under the rds station name like a US station ID.

FM volume is very loud on the lowest even compared to the MP3 player.

No seperate vibrate and silent when turning the volume down but that may be a gingerbread thing.

got it on wifi and added the google acct. all seems good there.

trying rdio now since this will probably stay in the car only using wifi when at home.

now all the stock apps are upgraded there is no space left. hopeless.

uninstalling the facebook and g+ updates have given enough to install and run other stuff. but for how long. looks like at $50 they were overpriced.

Richms: Youre unbelievable - trying to load a bunch of only what you consider to be "standard" apps, and it runs out of room? At NZ$50, please share with us your full expectations? Thats the sort of response I would expect from a $700 plus device review, but from a $50 device? Come on mate, youre being disingenuous to say the least about a product that retails at $50. Be fair, this device is probably not intended for full on Android geeks or similar, its really there to give new Android users a cost effective experience, introduction to Android, at a ridiculously low price.
