HI guys, Just an update, I crawled under the house yesterday and replaced the phone cable with CAT6, I ran a length from the 2 wire cable coming into the house (connected with Gel connectiors) straight to the jack point where the Genuis Router connects.
The connection speed has not improved but I'm now confident that there is nothing this end impacting of the connection speed.
johny99: strange ulaw should be higher than alaw. i believe ulaw is alot more common in nz.
The US and Japan are the only two countries that (tehnically) use μ-law as their primary G711 codec. A-law is used everywhere else in the world including New Zealand.
While we don't yet have a ratified standard for VoIP interconnect between carirers in NZ the TCF guidelines are the cloest, and this mandates A-law support as a minimum requirement, with all other codecs being optional and by agreement as transcoding is ultimately required somewhere in the media path.
Hi Guys, Updating you, I had a chat to the accounts team yesterday re a better way forward here and have been made aware of different solution.
Orcon can offer me an Analogue Phone connection with Free national calls and Unlimited internet for $99 dollars, my exchange has been upgraded I have been told, I'll let you know how it goes but sounds like a solution, I don't have to have Genius and won't be disenfranchised by a lesser service.
Hi all, Yes, the unlimited plan is available on LLU, UFB and Genius. We have unbundled a good number of exchanges over the past 12 months, so it maybe worth re-checking your address if you want that option. Cheers!
