cgreenwood: Perhaps we could do a poll then, for those out there looking to switch so they know what they will have to do when leaving?

So far we have:

Whole Month:
Vodafone
Slingshot
Xnet

Pro Rata:
Telecom

Anyone wish to add to the list?

For mobile phone plans, 2degrees do pro rata as well. I ported my number to Telecom when I was half way through my 2degress billing cycle and was (presently) surprised I was only billed on a pro rata basis by 2d.

lokhor: I contacted Slingshot about this and received the following response

As we are charged in advance to supply customers internet and homeline services, we need to pass that charge on. We can cancel the account at any point but we cannot re-rate for cancelling within a bill date sorry.

Which I guess is understandable and probably the reason why only Telecom charge pro rata.

Telecom is billed exactly the same as everyone else. Either Telecom is eating costs for customers leaving (unlikely) or Slingshot is not being entirely truthful here.

At the very least, I would expect a losing ISP to pro-rate the portion of your bill that relates to data (the ISP is charged roughly $40 for your connection plus data costs - you didn't use any data, so I would expect them only to charge you the base UBA charge if anything).
