I remembered my ADSL2 connection on another ISP getting close to 10Mb DL to the US.

What are your speed tests to other country's like, Just as slow?

My guess is Orcon is running low on the international bandwidth again.

You are on an unlimited plan, so at times there will be traffic policing at times to ensure fair use.

sweet, as per johnr's earlier post, im going to expect a CIR on international transit from vodafone, when they start offering ufb to market.... the stated ufb speed is only applicible to tagged traffic.

Himm the latency shows that 212 to SF is a little high for that side of the US....
Between NZ and SJ the Southern Cross has 130ms latency I believe so you would expect another 10ms-20ms if its anywhere on the west coast.... but 212 would suggest its more likely on the east coast (NY Direction)

At the time of bad speeds is it the same to anywhere in the US and around the world or is it just that speedtest server?

I have one question that i would like to know if anyone knwos.... by default on these www.speedtest.net test how many download and upload threads does it start?

As with the increase of latency you almost 1/2 speed, increasing threads will improve speedtest preformance.

i was doing some route testing between ISPs and discovered one of my staff was using UFB via orcon. From his connection, travelling the *exact same path*, the latency was higher. We re-ran the test a few times, orcon connection consistently slower.

see example here (the yellow bits are the same hops from APE to an intl destination):
