I use Netflix, and I have to say that I've also started to notice serious slowdown at peak times (e.g. 8:30pm). I normally get good quality (not HD, but it's ok) with no interruptions, but recently my streaming just stops dead and won't pick back up due to lack of bandwidth.

I tried starting my VPN (HMA UTP via Open VPN to San Diego & LA) to see if I was being shaped, but my speeds were just as poor.

I have to say I'm starting to get concerned...it's happening all too frequently.

Additional details:

250GB / month plan (with rollover)
ADSL model connection speeds are consistently 16,000 Kbps down and 1,200 up
I usually get 200-400ms pings and 4-8 Mbps download speeds from west coast USA servers (speedtest.net)
I use unblock US and VPN (HMA - UTP via Open VPN)

I have been battling Slingshot for a few days now. I have noticed download speeds have dropped as well as upload speed on international connections. Upload speeds have dropped to the degree where my Skype communication breaks down, I can see the person calling but they can't see me the video is all "puzzled".

I have run some trace routes, pings and speed tests and send the results over to Slingshot but they refuse to look at the problem. Their reply is as follow

"The issue here is that the first hop should never be more than 1ms (mine goes to 2ms ocassionaly), even on a wireless connection. This is the hop that shows the transfer/communication from the modem, and with inconsistency and results showing above 1ms on some of your results, this indicates that there is something within your premise equipment that may not be working as it should be. Without eliminating this first, we will not further investigate."

I have sent them multiple test results and pointed out that inconsistency

My reply to them was as follow "1 or 2ms for the first hop is not relevant it is only 1ms difference. Fluctuation on the second hop however carries on to the third and fourth and all the slingshot hops which referring back to your email (where you state that such fluctuation is not acceptable and is too common) indicates Slingshot's network have congestion issues that need to be sorted and I believe Slingshot side would be driving the delay between first and second hops. So by saying you're not going to troubleshoot the problem because the delay on second hop fluctuates a lot you're opening a can of worms and exposing Slingshot's own network to further critique which in turn requires investigation. I did run the Slingshot's own speedtests and they are fine (local 15/1.2, international 5/0.7), but these are not true representation of the connection speeds as they are Slingshot to Slingshot tests and do not prove anything. These could be fine tuned connections and are biased. I selected a few international servers on commonly used speedtest.net website and these do not show good results at all, Speedtest.net is grading the connection F on the local level, this is the poorest grade that can be achieved.

to add further, below are a couple more trace routes, this time it's very clear that there is some sort of selective traffic management in place - throttling, shaping - call it whatever, but it affects the connection in a bad way.

Youtube/Google I never had trouble accessing and I can see from the trace route below that it is on Slingshot priority list, however I'm expecting my trace routes to look similar to youtube or google trace routes for all the websites and this would be the service I'm paying for.

As Slingshot insist that the modem they have supplied when I signed up to the plan and which is now connected to the line is now faulty I have asked them to send a new modem as the one they have supplied is not fit for the purpose, is not durable (didn't last a reasonable/expected amount of time) or has minor defects and this falls under Consumer Guarantee Act.

I'm on 100Gb Rollover plan, below is ADSL connection info.

This normal Slingshot modus operandi, at least once a year they oversubscribe their transit till there are complaints and they then take forever to add more capacity.

There are countless previous threads about past issues, this the risk you take with a low cost unlimited provider/plan.

Once they add more capacity they will be fine for awhile again.

Hi guys,

We are performing a significant augment on the morning of 9th, and between now and then we are optimising the capacity we have.
