The options i have on network settings are:

  • Use data package
  • Data roaming
  • Names of access points
  • Use just 2G networks (i have disabled this option)
  • Networks operators (if i search for a network, none appears)
So, choosing a 3G network is not something i can on the regular menu of the phone.

johnr: Why would you disable use 2G?

It's "Use just 2G" so disabling that would enable 3G.

It's driving me nuts, since i don't want to spend money in a new phone (i just bought this one in december!), gonna send a message to samsung mexico asking exactly which bands my phone supports.

For some reason it looks like you're not even getting GSM900, which is the primary 2G coverage for 2degrees and vodafone.

The issue is the handset not 2Degrees! The handset does not support GSM / 2G on 900Mhz

End of story!

But how is possible that i had reception on Auckland and Tauranga, but not here on Te Puke, well, at least not in my house, the only area where i can get some reception at moments is on the center of town, on the area around the shops, but if i get out of that area my phone dies, and, as soon as i leave town and take the road to Tauranga my phone starts working again, really annoying!

GSM1800Mhz is used for capacity not coverage

In a nutshell your phone is connecting to infill (secondary) coverage but isn't compatible with the primary frequency. Secondary coverage is only available where the primary coverage is likely to be overloaded; that's an oversimplification but hopefully it gets the point across :)

If you get a handset that supports GSM / 2G 900Mhz you are going to have no issues even better get a handset that supports GSM / UMTS 900Mhz
