Any chance of giving us an update on the service once you're up and running?

I have a couple of questions why does it say movies from $4.99 when the ones on your website are all showing $6.99 especially since the age of some of the ones displayed are certainly worthy of being cheaper based on the age of the movie. I can rent Scott Pilgram for $1 why would i want to pay the same for a movie that's a few years old as a new release title???

The other question I have in relation to this is the ppv sports??? What's with that pricing??? You will charge $1.99 for a tv show yet $14.99 for 1 NRL game (which in some instances may play on Maori TV for free delayed a couple of hours) surely there hasn't been a lot of thought there. One can get a months worth of SKY sport for less than the price of 2 games or for the pedantic among you 5 games a month see you pay for the whole Sky package. Hate to be a fan of more than one sports team. 1 off game prices should be comparable to a new release movie not something where the customer feels like they are getting worse value than using Sky TV.

Please note this is only for things like the weekly games like NRL or Super Rugby it's a little different if we were talking about a international test game.

I do think the true PPV events are priced right at $25.00 just wondering if for example one paid for a UFC event would that include the full event or only the main card fights??? As there is sometimes only 4 or 5 fights on the main card and usually 6 - 8 on the undercard.

I am also in no way a fan of Sky at all they are the biggest contributor to why piracy is so bad in this country IMO if they were reasonably priced or offered things closer to when they actually came out(they've certainly improved a lot lately) then less people would pirate. Better yet why does our govt continue to support them when they're partly to blame for a lack of growth within the entertainment industry in NZ where's the support for introducing competition within the marketplace.

Where's the 2 Degrees of the TV world bringing competition and lower prices for all as a result. Please don't try to suggest the rebranding of Sky's UHF service (IGLOO) or Freeview are either of these.

I'm a product manager at Slingshot. We have a bundled 50GB Broadband Homeline and IGLOO box and IGLOO channel pack for $99 per month. Although we don't have any influence or control on Pay Per View pricing and content, I have passed your feedback on to IGLOO.

IGLOO’s movie prices range from $4.99 - $6.99. IGLOO has (as at 23/4/13) over 1000 available. On the IGLOO website there is a bit of a selection of the best and newest from the whole selection of titles - to give a bit of an overview of what’s most relevant/appealing. Of course this means that generally it is the New Releases – which are all $6.99.

The standard pricing isn’t dictated by IGLOO – the distributors tell IGLOO what is new and what is not, and therefore what pricing bracket it falls into.

Without the details of how you’re getting the $1 title you reference it’s difficult to comment. Only query on this would be whether this is standard pricing, or a special offer, and whether they have a great range available at this price.

The events available and the pricing of the sports available on FRONT ROW on IGLOO, is provided to IGLOO – of course IGLOO would love to have more events, and cheaper events to give customers – but that’s not currently an option.

IGLOO’s FRONT ROW channel and the events aren’t for everyone. It’s a hand-picked selection of pay per view LIVE sport – something that hasn’t been available until now in NZ. You have free to air channels included with IGLOO so that if you want to watch delayed coverage for free, it is also available.

If you want to watch the odd LIVE match, it could be for you.

If you want to watch more than that, chances are you already have SKY sport, and IGLOO isn’t best suited to your regular sports weekend.

As an aside…the results are showing that people are willing to pay for 1 NRL game. Those people that just want the ODD match…not the commitment and on-going cost of a 12 month SKY contract for just the rugby season.

In short, a regular sports viewer will be better off with SKY sports. The other option obviously being to go to the pub to watch it…by the time you buy a round of drinks that same NRL match is all of a sudden right up there in terms of cost, but at least you've got a beer.

If you purchase a PPV event such as UFC/WWE through IGLOO you will see the whole undercard as well as the main event.

Thanks for the response to my queries / rant. To be honest your answers were pretty much as expected (not trying to offend there either just I am aware a lot of the pricing for ppv (movies, or sports) is simply not something in your control).

As I know you are just the reseller there is often not a lot of control on the individual pricing it's just a shame that the suppliers do not actually think about their pricing in relation to the sales high prices generate. I've always been of a thought process that a slightly lower price than the competition and or alternatives is going to generate more sales and probably better long term profits.

The $1 movies I was talking about is pretty much any given video store on anything day but the weekends and for the older movies. That would generally get the response of but then you have to go out pay for gas etc repsponse but at $5ish for 1 older movie from home I can get 5 so the price is definitely offset.

Love the way you used going to the pub as a alternative as yes you may still have a beer but for those who will bite the bullet it may just not stop at one so staying home and paying for a one off is probably better in some ways lol.

Great to know that the whole event is shown as I'd hate to think I was paying $25 for a UFC event then miss more than half of the events fights just because Dana didn't think them good enough fights for the main card. So that's definitely got some bonus points there.

If only we could get season passes to the sports we want or something like that it would be fantastic but it'll probably never happen.

I know Igloo will more than likely be a success and used by more and more people as old school tv gets switched off it's just a shame that the Sky monopoly prevents us from having true competition as seeing something like Netflix or Hulu show up over here in NZ would be fantastic or even if the licencing deals were not tied up then Quickflix could get a better showing.

Cheers once again just one more question...Is one limited to 50gig or can they still buy data packs to add on top???

Yes, there's plenty of untapped potential for IGLOO which is great. I will pass on suggestions to IGLOO, there is a mechanism to buy events and why not use it?

Re: 50GB - yes you can buy data packs to top up your data.

Well, the Igloo box finally arrive. Hook up was simple. HDMI cable, antenna, and power cable connected. Took about 5 minutes to set it self up once power turned on. It found the freeview channels and the 11 channel package. One small glitch. There was an option to register the box or continue. I chose register and ended up in a loop between register box and move on to next screen. Fortunately there was an 0800 number come up on the screen to phone Igloo. Waited about 5 minutes on the phone, then talked to a real english speaking person

. The problem was, because I received the box as part of the Slingshot deal it was all ready registered. I suggested to the support person I was talking to, they might want to consider advising people who were getting this deal be advised to not register the box as it was all ready done. It might cut down on the number of calls to Igloo with the same problem. I found the menu's a little slow in response to pressing a button on the remote. Other than that I would say the Igloo box is on a par with most other freeview boxes. So far I'm happy with it, especially the extra money in my pocket thru not having a sky account any more.
I would have liked to keep MYSKY as in my opinion it is a very good system. Changing priorities and finances dictated the change.

Currently we are offering one Bundle offer, the 50GB Broadband with rollover data, and homeline with IGLOO TV. This represents very good value as a bundle, and as it ties in low cost subscription TV with a competitive broadband and calling package that has the widest appeal. If there is enough demand for IGLOO TV with other services, we will consider developing these.

The question I have for you is, if you could build your own bundle of services, what would it look like?
What would be the feature that has the most appeal to you?

Igloo as you know is owned by Sky, they've obviously decided to plug a gap in their offering by adding a more "tailorable" service on UHF. Sports is the jewel in their Monopolistic crown, it's THE main reason they managed to get a huge subscriber base, they ain't gonna let ppv events go for cheap. So it's deliberately "worse value than Sky TV", they don't want to lose money.

Good question. The barriers to entry are now enormous, bigger than in the semi-regulated mobile phone market. It would take a major overseas TV company moving here and outbidding Sky for live sports and other content. It seems to be pretty much a watertight monopoly that has skilfully avoided any govt regulation. Internet distribution like Quikflix are the only source of hope it would seem.
I gave up on Sky a few years ago when they wanted to charge me a minimum of $70/month or something just so i could watch the rugby. I now do all of my TV watching via the Net (used to watch TVNZ7 for local content incl. news but that's gone now).

Unlimited naked xDSL with the option of one or more igloos added at a slightly reduced rate compared to getting straight off igloo. VDSL preferred since once you go VDSL it makes ADSL look rather useless in comparison.
