GoneTomorrow: That spectrum shows some serious wiring issues not related to the distance from the cabinet

About the splitter; that could be correct. For VDSL a 'master splitter' is installed. It is not visible as it is usually installed inside your ETP (Telecom/Chorus box on the side of your house where your phone line comes in). Were you present during the installation? The technicians should have spent a bit of time installing a dedicated VDSL line from the master splitter to the jack point where your modem connects.

If this was not done, it will certainly be the cause of the bad graph, and your slow speeds.

Oh dear! Perhaps I should get in touch with Snap.
The technician didn't go into the details over what he did, and I didn't actually ask.
The technician simply came over and hooked up our modem and then left...

hio77: i assume a splitter was indeed installed?

how the spectrum looking?

CRCPM of 0.01, looking good to move down some profiles, unfortunately, that is all down to the waiting game.

at 16db, i suspect you were certainly boarder line ild say..

Hey hio,
A splitter was no installed - I was surprised about that. They plugged the cable directly into the r11 port.

are you saying he plugged you directly into the cable from the ETP, in otherwords, it being a direct connection from the cabinet to your modem or just put it into a jackpoint and went with it.

if the case is he didnt do a spitter install at all, and it wasnt a direct connection. they have not done their who job, as part of a vdsl install as of a few months ago has been installing a vdsl splitter with cat5E.. call snap and alert them to the fact that it wasnt done. get it sorted.

that graph looks horrid.

it doesnt look like distance at all but line issues. the next thing that is clear in the graph is a fair bit of RFI, that would affect it even more.

Thanks for your reply hio. Much appreciated.
I mean to say, the tech just plugged in our vdsl modem to the jackpoint.
Not sure whether he's installed a splitter. Highly doubt we have a direct connection too. I will have to call snap first thing tomorrow.

Thanks very much.

no good at all! they should have done it... whats the point of even turning up if they arent gonna do anything more than check you plugged the modem in... do snap still send on the how to get your modem working paper? pretty sure that would have done just as much of a job as the tech in this case..

if theres already a splitter installed and such, that is a completely different story, but for you, that certainly doesnt sound to be the case, or look it for that matter!

Thanks for your help mate,
Called snap today ,after conducting some line tests they also suspect that a VDSL splitter may not have been installed by the Chorus tech. They've logged a job with Chorus to get this rectified.
I have no time frame of when this will be sorted, but hopefully soon!
I will post new speed results once I get them.

WOW! Thankfully everything is sorted out now. Snap have been very helpful! Thank you Snap!

Chorus had signed my installation of as successful and so for them to come out and assess the situation may have costed me $270 if they ending up finding nothing wrong. Snap were prepared to waive this fee of course but the interesting thing is.........

The Chorus tech came back and installed a VDSL splitter, completed the job. and now, see below my new speed test results:

:D :D

Shoot! That's a nice increase, I wish I had speeds like that :).

For interests sake, could you post the new stats and spectrum tabs from the FritzBox?
