JokezNZ: Hi, what's the difference between the Unlimited One and the Unlimited Plus plans?

According to their website "Unlimited One" is unlimited but peer to peer traffic is "heavily throttled".  "Unlimited Plus" is promoted as "Unlimited Broadband".

There is also some small print about direct dial tolls being required but it is not totally clear to me if that relates to just some or all of their packages.  I suspect the latter.

I was assured during the sales process that the throttle only applies while there is P2P traffic in effect.

Just out of curiosity, what make & model does Slingshot use for its fibre RGW?

NZtimbo: "Ultra-VDSL hasn't quite made it to your place yet.

We are expanding the service massively over the next few months, so it should be available soon."...

;-( BIG SAD FACE

VDSL in a few months, I'll keep you to that...

Tim

Seems it reports "next few months" for anything, I tried with an address that is never going to get VDSL (too far from exchange) and it says the same thing. I wouldn't hold them to it...

I'm keen to know if there is a way to get notified when VDSL is available?

The address finder app gave me a 'no', too. I happen to know that VDSL is on the street, so I called and got it checked manually.

it says the same for my address and i have had VDSL for a year or so , so take that with a grain of salt and get your address checked manually

Common sense is not as common as you think.

"FREE dynamic line management for maximum VDSL performance"

Elaborated on:
"Ultra-VDSL at Slingshot has a special feature called "Dynamic Line Management" that automatically optimises the performance of your connection over the first 10 days. This is Free for all slingshot Ultra-VDSL customers."

I wish my VDSL had this special feature for free

On a more serious note, do we have more details about the CPE?

zyo: Naked VDSL or GTFO

The land-line was extra, free, I told them I won't plug it in anyway. I don't believe there is a functional difference between naked and robed, anymore - or what am I missing?

No different in performance, but you pay extra for the landline (nothing is free)

It was free, not free to use - I think the hope is that I will plug it in one day and accidentally dial the talking clock in North Korea and leave the phone off the hook. As we haven't used a landline in years, I don't care to plug it in so the risk is low; none of us even get close to using our free mobile minutes each month (although we aren't what you would call 'chatty'). I Skype everybody outside NZ anyway, that's "free" too. For now.

Selling landlines must be like trying to sell a newspaper subscription.

If by "free" you really mean "included in the price", then sure, it's free. However, it's definitely not free in the sense of not paying for it at all. Compare the price of the NDSL unlimited plan ($90/mth) with the bundled unlimited plan ($109/mth) and it should be obvious.

Have just signed up for the service. Looking forward to it. Agreed to buy the Slingshot modem, however I can't find the specs anywhere. Was just wondering if anyone knew or could send me a link to it or the equivalent white label/generic equivalent.

I'm actually most interested in whether the on-board switch is a gigabit switch or not.

Any help or information would be appreciated.

With thanks

Danny

It's only 100mbit. I'd suggest buying your own. The PDF specs are in the other VDSL thread. One minute...

"Here's the user manual for the VDSL modem - http://help.slingshot.co.nz/ci/fattach/get/206463/1384743600/redirect/1/filename/VB104W%20VDSL%20User%20Manual.pdf

And here's the one for the Fibre modem - http://help.slingshot.co.nz/ci/fattach/get/206464/1384743813/redirect/1/filename/TriplePlay150_User%20Manual.pdf "

Thank you for that. Sorry, I just couldn't find the specs. Useful link.

I'll trawl through the pages to see if there's a recommendation on a VDSL Gigabit router somewhere... I'm leaning towards a Netcomm one at the moment, simply for the wireless (a/b/g/n) and wired (gigabit) speeds.
