NonprayingMantis: Same construct as telecoms ultra+ plans! but just starts from a lower price point but also with much less data.

http://www.telecom.co.nz/business/ourproducts/mobilephones/ultraplus/

Telecom one starts from $119, but has more data at that price compared to the 2d one.

Additional mobiles costs 39 on telecom but 29 on 2d, however, you can add a tablet to the telecom one for only $10, so depending on the devices it may or may not work out as good.

And it is available to a consumer subscriber, not just a business subscriber. And you can already share with a tablet on 2degrees for free. We've had that for a couple of years now.

Point taken on the tablet one, I'd forgotten that, but the 'must be a business' requirement is pretty silly.
Anybody can go in and sign up and claim to be a business. (And, unless you requires them to be a business with limited liability, anybody can do that totally legitimately by claiming to be a self employed consultant or something.)

I used to be on a telecom business broadband plan years ago because it had a higher data cap and better overage rates, nobody ever asked me to prove I was a business.

I didn't know Telecom and 2degrees were the same company ...

On another note; I don't see the point in the $89 plan. It doesn't give much extra!

They aren't. My point as that having a rule that you must be a business is pretty pointless because it is impossible to enforce in a practical way. Anybody can be a business just by claiming to be.

SaltyNZ any info on this?

eXDee: "Get 2GB FREE Carryover Data when you join any Plan before 31 Jan 2014."

I'm guessing this is a one off? Also guessing if the master account buys a data pack, that is also shared too.

As I understand it, $69 plan is BYOD and gives no handset subsidy - but you're right, I don't really see the point. You're basically paying $480 extra over 24 months to get a handset subsidy of probably less than that amount.

willnz: 2degrees' plans have unlimited calls to mobile AND landline included - to anyone, not just within you group. Totally different to Vodafone Family.

That sounds really good but I'm struggling to see where that is explicitly stated....

Errrrrr the front page ;-)

Whether it’s for you, you and a partner or your family, you can now get one shareable pool of Unlimited Calls and Texts* to NZ & Aussie plus loads of NZ data that you can share with up to 3 other people on 2degrees.

I'm pretty sure it's a one-off, but that bit is not being handled by my stuff so I cannot say for certain. I can say for sure that any packs bought by the master account are definitely shared though.

It's more than that (for example, an S4 costs $89 with this plan) but I don't know exactly how much.

My understanding is it is a one-off 2GB that expires end of January 2014.. so not terribly "carried over", just a month or two.

It's "Carryover data" the same as the monthly data on the plan. It all accumulates and can be used in later months.

The end of January 2014 is the last date to get it not when it expires.

[Edit to fix typo]

I know, but their data plans also include 2GB extra for free - and that expires end of January:

ETA: S
orry - misread that too! Same deal - extra 2GB if you sign up until end of Jan, no word of when it expires though.

This is going to create some interesting discussions over at Telecom and Vodafone on Monday morning.

The numbers work out really good

1 person = $69
2 people = $44.50 each
3 people = $36.33 each
4 people = $32.25 each

Now the hard part, trying to find others using 2degrees to band up with

..people who you won't mind if they use all the data....

I might do this with my wife. I know she uses eff all data, but then she only uses about 50 mins too, so prob better off just leaving her on $19 pack.

You want people who use basically no data, but lots of mins to make it worthwhile.

No chance I'm putting my kids on it though. My data would be all gone within a couple of days.

The data and voice/text sharing can be controlled separately. You could just tell them to buy their own data. ;-)

Did I miss something:

For 2 users.

2deg: $119 + $20 = $139 for unlimited texts/calls and 2.5GB of data

Telecom: $80 ($39x2) for 600mins (We use around 60mins, max, so unlimited is irrelevant), unlimited texts and 2GB

Vodafone: PAY ALL THE MONEY. Get none of the data. I'm sure there is a meme or gif in there somewhere.

I love that 2degrees are pushing stuff forward, but I'm not sure this is such a great deal. Not for me, anyway.
