Fireengine: my sync speed is 64.3/10.2 and i get 60/9.8 on speed tests through out auckland

60% of the sync speed is saying something is wrong there

try downloading a large file and see what the download speed says
http://www.nvidia.com/content/DriverDownload-March2009/confirmation.php?url=/Windows/332.21/332.21-desktop-win8-win7-winvista-64bit-english-whql.exe&lang=us&type=GeForce
thats not a bad one to start with (doesnt matter what the file is just matters if it can max your connection) as it should max out a 40meg connection and its large enough to give the connection a chance to see what it can do

most browsers should be able to have you a round speed per second guide in the download window

bruizerbg:  ... when I do a Speedtest with the Orcon site I am only seeing 28mbps download (but I am seeing close to 10mbps upload).

Thousands of New Zealanders would be delighted to see speeds like this - myself included.

Means you likely have a number of the VDSL factors in your favour and a clean line. Not all VDSL circuits are going to be equal, that just isn't possible with the variable state of copper lines. VDSL isn't like UFB which should have highly repeatable and good results as it is on fibre and new infrastructure.

Can you PM me your login name?

We need to check that you have been placed on the right profile on our BNG's.

i still cant see it loosing 40% on the errors. if there were that many errors the line must have very high attenuation so how did they get VDSL in the first place?

most people with a bad line dont get 45 as a sync speed either they get a lot lot lower

bruizerbg: Thanks FireEngine - therefore the only way that it might improve is if the DLM decides it will change my profile from 8a to 17a - yes? Over which I have no control...

DLM is more sophisticated than just two profiles but essentially yes, it does its own thing over time, training the line speed and profile to get the best results.

Did this download and got an average around 1380kbps in Google Chrome. How do I relate this to the speeds we are talking about?

Bruce

I wouldnt start to jump up and down until its been more than 10 days. I am sure Orcon have not had VDSL for more than 10 days to start with. DLM may screw your line for the first bit. If you Synch at 45Mbp/s and get over 35-38 throughput your in line with VDSL spec.

Please advise if that was a big B or a small b, If its a big B times that by 8 and if that is close to your sync you are good.

This issue has nothing to do with VDSL or DLM. For some reason Bruiser has been provisioned incorrectly on our BNG equipment and has been placed on a ADSL Profile.

We will resolve this first thing in the morning. He should easily get his line speed from local sites.
