hio77: as a random thought, considering your also using a fritz there

does the ipv6 issues go away if your enable IPv6 port forwarding on your computer?

As in, forward all ipv6 traffic to one device using the Fritz!Box IPv6 Port Forward function?

in the permit access section, fritzbox has some sort of hybird firewall on IPv6

Cheers thanks. Did some testing with that and still no difference.

I'm also having trouble accessing Wikipedia and Geekzone as well (both IPv6 enabled sites) - same thing as Facebook with the timeouts and the freezing on page loading. I have talked to friends with Snap UFB who have experienced similar problems so I swear I'm not crazy.

I'm on the 30/10 fibre plan with FritzBox and getting these EXACT issues also, but only the past week or two.

Facebook is file when I first load it (most of the time), but when automatically reloading new content the pictures always come up blank.

Also, Wikipedia is slower than dialup for me, but it eventually loads.

Another problem I have is Youtube will sometimes stall when loading pages and then the video will show that there was an error, or other times it will be playing a video perfectly fine and then all of a sudden, just stop loading and I have to reload the page to get it working again.

I disabled IPV6 on the FritzBox and things seemed better. Wikipedia was still slow but not as bad as it was, just slower than I would expect with fibre. On a whole though, things were better. I don't really know enough about the technology to fix the issues. It looks like Disabling IPV6 is the answer for now?

This thread just reminded me that I disabled IPV6 on my PC when I joined SNAP last November, same issue, FB pics not loading and a bunch of other random stuff.
I think I should go and check with other members of the household to make sure they haven't been just putting up with the issue, as I had forgotten about doing theirs...

Hi All,

Thanks for the info here, we are currently trying to replicate the issue in our lab environment - so will post updates here on the fix when we have more info!, we confirm that it does seem to be an issue on Residential (GPON/DSL) IPv6 connections.

Thanks
TheRalph

I too have noticed that quite regularly ipv6 based web request seem to time out but then work when re-requested.

At first I thought this could be DNS related since the decision of the web browser choosing to use ipv6 is dictated by the response it gets from a DNS query to see if there is a AAAA record for the domain requested.

I am now pretty confident this is not DNS related after testing a variety of different DNS services and even just requesting resources using ipv6 address directly.

It appears that some request work and some dont. I would hazard a guess at this time out happening about 30% of the time I request an ipv6 based resource.

Great to see Snap have acknowledged this as an issue and are looking into this.

BTW a handy tool to help indicate if you are using ipv6 is the browser extension IPvFoo for Chrome.

I downgraded my Fritz!Box 7390 to FritzOS 5.22 to see if I can eek out some more VDSL performance. Along the way I noticed the ipv6 issues I and others were having seem to have gone away. Are people running FritzOS 6.01 still having these issues with ipv6 sites and resources?

I'm using:

FRITZ!OS 05.51

Firmware version: 84.05.51

And I am having IPv6 issues. Turned IPv6 off though and it is working like a charm.

I have given up on IPv6 - Internal PCs become externally routed when the prefix changes till things update, My chromecast would disconnect from the phone's youtube app almost immediately the phone or tablet went to sleep, constant issues with images in facebook app and many other things ending up serving me from slow far off places instead of the speed I am used to.

IPv6 off and mostly things come right. The phone's youtube app will stay connected to chromecast even with the screen off for hours, it doesnt drop out in standby or when I roam between accesspoints.

Facebook works properly.

Downloads don't mysteriously come from some far off IPv6 host instead of a local CDN.

Its not essential, doesn't add anything to the internet experience and reeks of being an alpha service IMO with most app's not dealing with it very well at all.

cant say i have really dealt with any of the issues you have listed.

i do however only run key machines on IPv4 (fileserver etc that will never be internet facing of any importants anyway)

line only disconnects, when i cause i disconnection, thus IPv6 prefix stays the same.

be it, my network is rather consolidated compared to what it once was, so there are very few computers that sit on it 24/7 without sleeping and waking up, thus they refresh their prefix.
