I'm probably going to tinker with freetz once i get UFB - that way if i break something it doesn't matter as much, as ive got another router i can use as the gateway.
That's a hard question to answer as it would appear that that the UFB has problems and while there have been problems with the Fritz it would appear that there may also be issues at the BNG that need to get sorted. I love the Fritz and the benefits it offers and I get a perfect ride on the 200/50 plan with the 7360 on an older firmware but when it comes to the 7390 - different kettle of fish totally, speeds are well down. It would be fair to say that given the issues it's probably back to square one and tick off all the basics. As others have said - other ISP's are offering the product without issue so it has to be either the way it's configured, hardware issues or routers incompatibility - or a mix of all three.
I note that Fritz are bringing out a FTTH specific router 4080 which sounds promising

Fibre support is irrelevant though - you'll still need to use the Chorus/LFC supplied ONT if you're using UFB. There is no ability to use a GPON SFP module.
