sbiddle: Crosstalk on VDSL2 is becoming a real world issue.

I wonder how much of that is caused by people tweaking their line settings with the fritz. Or having poor house wiring which caused the modems to transmit at a higher power output than otherwise needed.

I'm guessing people with just have to deal with it until fibre comes past their door, as forcing people to get wiring done might get tricky for those with a 'working' setup.

We're seeing both the good and the bad about VDSL2 - with FEXT being the bad side.

I just feel sorry for Australia who are now essentially dumping and moving towards VDSL2 based FTTN. Within 4 or 5 years they'll have what we had in 2011, and all the problems that go with it.

I get high 30's/low 40's during a powercut, and slightly under or barely 20 now at other times. Crosstalk is a bitch, but the copper was never specced out for anything more than E1 frequancies so there isnt a lot that can be done other than to wait for fiber.

ah, prime targets for VDSL and well known for their high use of high speed applications and cloud backup services.

totally.. door to door guys were very good at spewing in correct garbage that i went off at them for too. never tell me my internet will be faster on telecom as it will go to the cabinet and not the exchange.....

my favourite D2D guys were Telstraclear. They used to insist that I should move of my ADSL connection onto their 'Fibre' connection (this was in Eden Terrace, back in 2011). I always got the same basic spiel from the salesperson, even if they were different people, so it made me wonder whether it wasn't just rogues feeding me BS to get the sale, but rather this is what they were told to use as a sales pitch by their trainers

So essentially guys what you are saying is I can't do anything and have to put up with what I now have?

It seriously sux - and by the looks of it there are more of us having to put up with it - because its a fault in Chorus' network strategy?

My suburb is not even on the short list for Fibre...

your missing the point made earlier.

looking at your stats your connection was actually REALLY good for your distance, it was always going to drop down into spec.

unfortunately.. this is how it will be.

Assuming the issue is FEXT, from a purely technical perspective there is no fault - there is a product performing exactly as it should. There is nothing wrong with the Chorus network strategy.

It's hilarious the way they're trying to sell VDSL to every man and his dog. I do connections for elderly ladies, who barely use a computer, let alone download things. They might use skype once in a blue moon. I feel like running down the D2D salesmen, or atleast yelling profanities out to them.

They sell this service with the impression that the customers entire life will automatically speed up 100x. Lies.

Also on topic, it could be a ton of things, including FEXT, have you noticed any chorus vans doing installs at your neighbours? There is possibility for a number of line issues, ie if a Chorus tech has had to swap you to another line due to shortages in pairs etc. The DLM mightve had you on the wrong profile and has possibly put you down a notch, however, probably not because most connections start and end on 8b and rarely change.

If you have a direct line (completely seperate cat5/6 cable) from the demarc (ETP) to your jackpoint, then certainly count your internal wiring out. Any ISP is hard to work with to figure out issues with your line, because frankly if you have anything over 20 by 10, there is no real issue because that's a very common speed for alot of VDSL users. And the ISP's themselves do have a hard time diagnosing what the problem is. Remember they have to deal with Chorus aswel and things can snowball into chinese whispers, eventuating into nothing more than "We'll monitor your line for 24hrs". Someone has to pay for a faultman to go out and diagnose line issues, and Chorus are reluctant to do that due to the fact that alot of issues just arent worth the time and expenses involved. Sure, if you're dropping out consistantly and maintain a subpar speed, but 20/10 isnt that bad.
