By the way OP, you wont get 50 Mbps+ on the VB104W.

It doesnt sync very well compared to other vendors.
The reliability of the device is dodgy and the wireless fluctuates badly, especially when several devices are using it. So make sure it is in an easy place to power cycle (aka pull the power cord and replug it).

Also remember to disable the logging as it doesnt clear and locks the device up.

Concerning the line state ...for example I am ~130m away.
Tech estimated my line at least 50 Mbps but should be able to get onto 17a at 60Mbps+. Hasnt happened.

My attn says 0.1 (is actually about 2.5db) and I only get 45 Mbps sync.
I have a clean line and new cat6 cabling to the ETP where the filter is.

If you have the cash, splash out on an Asus DSL N66U. (Not to be confused with the RT version)

We aren't so concerned about getting the very best speeds right now on VDSL, we would be happy just getting near 30Mbps. We are planning to get Fibre in the future so don't want to splash out a bunch of money on a router that we may need to replace in the next few months.

im wondering is something hasnt been done on slingshots end.

or your modem is misreporting your attentation and its actually higher than 2.5 (which FYI is pretty damn low for 175m away)

Well I have been messaging Slingshot on here for the last couple hours after giving them my Account number. They have told me they are sure that I am on a VDSL profile. Im hooked into a VDSL walljack and my router is set to VDSL mode (rather than auto detect) so I am inclined to believe that at least on Slingshots end I am on a VDSL profile.

From what other people have reported of their attenuation 2.5 for 175 meters really isn't that low. According to the Speed Calculator, a 2.5 attenuation is about 180 something meters away from the cabinet, which seems about on par for what I am getting.

Slingshot pinged my house and received a response between 2-6dB which seems about right for what my router is reporting as well.

are you able to telnet into the modem?

I personally cannot. Thats not to say someone else couldn't do it. I just don't have the computing skills to do so.

i dont think you can telnet into the slingshot provided one, i think they disabled it.
