Yes, but in the same way as the Sharer (Pay Monthly customer) the Prepay customer could get a Value Data Pack to get the best value.

So let me get this straight - if I am on account and have worry free data and share data with a mifi type device with no account balance, when the parent account runs out of data the mifi device can still use data, and this will be taken from the parent account at the casual data rate?

I would have thought that if the parent account had worry free data, this would stop the sharing of data from that account when the data ran out, rather than keeping on going at the casual rate.

Sorry my post was ambiguous. I meant if pay monthly shares to prepay but runs out of data, will prepay then use prepay credit at casual data rate. This was a direct response to friendlymonkeys solution.

Prepay won't be able to debit pay monthly account if pack data is gone (which invokes worry free)

If pay monthly shares to prepay, and prepay has no data of their own, then prepay uses pay monthly's data (which includes plan data and pack data) until there is no data left. If prepay has some data of their own (from a pack) then that is used until there is none left.

The prepay will never use their own credit nor the pay monthly's credit.

Of course, sharing does not apply whilst international roaming so both prepay and postpay use their own credit or roaming data (for the $149 business plan).

Were you roaming on Vodafone inside a 2degrees coverage area? If you make heavy use of the zone packs then you would probably do better to lock the zone pack using device(s) to 2degrees. I'm sure there will be instructions for most devices around the place; it's not a new or secret problem.

Or are you suggesting that whilst in 2degrees coverage, and attached to the 2degrees network, your device used national data instead of zone data? I would be very interested to see an example of that.

I actually don't know if i was roaming or what. I was travelling from welly to palmy a month ago and posted about it in this thread [url]http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=85&topicid=90604[url\] but got no response.

If i could trust 2degrees I'd leave credit on my account. But it disappears indiscriminately.

Sorry if we didn't get back to you on the above thread, however we don't have the ability (yet) to prevent your Prepay credit being taken if your Value Pack data runs out. We try to let customers know by text when they're running low but as mentioned before we cannot guarantee delivery and advise customers to keep a close eye on their balances regularly and before they connect.

There's a few options to do that -

Your 2degrees
*100*1#
Our mobile app

Or call 200 from your 2degrees phone or 0800 022022 from another phone to speak to Care.

Perhaps set a Data usage limit on your phone and turn off Mobile data off when not in use to prevent any unwanted leakage.

Thanks for your answer. But would this be the ideal opportunity to upgrade your systems to prevent unintended casual data from eroding ALL prepay credit as the DEFAULT option?

I have the 2degrees app, I'm aware of how to check my usage. In fact I was quite aware that data was being used and incorrectly assumed that data would stop at the end of the datapack. But none of this is of any use if a rogue app won't stop consuming data unintentionally then it AUTOMATICALLY rolls on to casual rates. . I didn't come to soapbox or whinge about $ of credit being fleeced, but with the intention of hoping to coerce 2degrees to change their system to an ethical model by default.

By the way of any one is interested, I'd set up a new android phone, and the Google photos app decided to upload 1000's of my photos to picassa. The reason i had trouble tracing the data leak was because the phone reported that it was google+ that was using the data.
