Thanks for that mate so you say these numbers won't change they told me they were just estimate. the telecom guy said he switched his and got:
adsl2+: 14.8 -15.5 Mb/s
VDSL2: 17.6-18.4 Mb/s
but once he got connected he got between 24-30mbps. I'm not sure if he's lying or not. But was wondering If I see no change can I go back to ADSL2? I'm sure there must be some sort of 30 day money back guarantee

Spark no longer requires a mobile to have "naked" anymore - that happened last friday, however you do get a further discount on their naked plans if you have a mobile on an ultra plan

*naked in quotation marks as pots line is still there just call barred.

often with vdsl this is lowballed a little bit, sometimes its correct, and other times its actually better. It is simply an estimate.

those numbers look to me possibly as a borderline connection, What is your current adsl downstream attenuation?

OP.

If you sign up for VDSL, I believe there is a minimum speed in which they say that there is a difference over ADSL2+ and therefore any "downgrade" would cost you.

Furthermore things which may help your attenuation and sync rates:

1) DSL Splitter install.
-This should be free if you sign up for VDSL. It will often provide the biggest boost in line stats.

2) Internal wiring.
-Replace with CAT5e or better for xDSL technologies.

3) Re-splice cable at ETP and road side pedestal (need a Chorus tech for this one).

4) Re-terminate cable at road side cabinet (sometimes Chorus techs stuff up, so a new termination can work better).

5) Decent modem. (Better chipset, almost always better sync rates)
-ASUS DSL N66U is a winner these days around here.
-People also favour fritz box too.

6) SNRM tweaking via modem.
-DSL N66U and Fritz box both have SNRM tweaking.

7) If on VDSL, sometimes a port reset can fix things if your profile gets stuck / stuffed up or if you want to reattempt tuning.

Other:
-You could try and ensure that the line from the road to the VDSL modem is as short as possible. I have heard of some people that lay new cable down shorter paths, but I think its probably overkill unless the cable is actually stuffed.

I'm probably forgetting something, but that should get you started.

Not sure how far away from the exchange / cabinet you are, but I have heard of people on line lengths 500 - 800m getting around 30+ Mbps after SNRM tweaking.
Take a look around some of the threads in the SNAP forum section, you might be able to find the pages.

Wow cheers for these mate. I just renewed my contract with Telecom again with Naked ADSL connection for $65pm. In few day I'm going to upgrade to VDSL regardless as all those test results show a very rubbish connection.
Do you reckon I might get better speed after upgrading? seeing those current connection speeds...
Also do they change the router after upgrading to VDSL?

I've been with Slingshot for a few years now.

I started off with a high use ADSL plan and then went unlimited and then finally went VDSL when it rolled onto my street. At each of those changes, it was difficult to get through to the right person at Slingshot, so yes, the installs or changes were testing, but by testing, I mean I didn't get it sorted immediately, but eventually, and it still is the cheapest VDSL on the planet, so there is going to be some expected compromise. I've only had to call a handful of times over the years and there are occaisions when I've had the displeasure of speaking to somebody who clearly has no idea, but for the most part, problems have been solved. At least, I read here some stories of people having no Internet for weeks or bad billing/contract problems that can't be solved with a call and that's never been my case.

The VDSL modem they give out is a featureless cheapie, but after I called to give them stick about this, they credited me the modem's cost and when I had trouble connecting, they sent me a free swapout to test. I know from experience that good modems are expensive but also hardly required for most residential broadband connections so I didn't expect anything massive. I bought a Fritzbox on the FS thread here a few weeks back and my connection speed has increased by about 20%, not to mention I have features I could use.

I'd recommend Slingshot if you have basic requirements or you are okay solving some of your own problems if you have complex requirements.

I get about 25/9 d/l and u/l and there is no throttling that I can see. I manage a large pool of backups and data and I work from home without any problems. I make use of 'Global Mode' and watch a lot of streaming content and I have a service hosted in my basement without connection issues.

I'd like to add that with any new connection you can expect trouble because there are layers of responsibility with various service providers, not just one and everybody has a different distance to a different cabinet etc.

If you like slow service(actually dont bother trying too call them,you will be on hold for years). and average internet speeds,then go for it!

I am relatively new to Slingshot and as I posted within days in this forum I was very impressed with initial results. As Slingshot have their own equipment in our exchange my connection rates downstream went up from about 8.5 megabits per second to around 11.6 megabits per second and upstream rates went up to 1.1 megabits per second. I did have initial reservations about changing over to them too as they were offering 80 Gigs of naked broadband data for $55 and I had heard bad things about them too but since changing to them I am still pleased with the service I am getting. In my case cheap certainly isnt nasty.

if you can get onto their gear with the lower SNR, generally that works out better for you :)

Towards the end of my time with them, they were working really well on my ADSL connection. The only reason I changed that line to bigpipe was that slingshot took too long to get a naked VDSL product to market, and stuff having a landline with a contract on it when it would sit idle forever.

Call center was a bit crap historically but last few calls were no worries, english fine, no dickky voip to the third world and they understood what I was asking.

If global mode is of interest to you then give it a shot IMO.
