Got a nice new white modem. Increased my connection speed from 11000 to 13500. Only 18 months to wait for fibre.

Modem synced the following day after a day of zero service. I received a text from Orcon saying that the fault had been resolved. However, the line rate has fallen further and the connection is terribly unstable.

The move to Spark is underway and having tested the line they have found it unsuitable for VDSL, which I suspected all along. Something is clearly a bit wrong with the way Orcon is provisioning these services.

Thumbs up to Spark, they've been very attentive and communicated everything well.

If a VDSL connection is to far away from the exchange which it sounds like yours was, then yes you would get a lower sync rate and the instability, all carriers depend on Chorus to install these circuits, and they're not meant to proceed if a site is unsuitable. However by in large they do, which causes more problems that it does good. We have very little control of that.

Good luck with your new provider.
