I'm on the $29 plan and I'm currently getting 1Gb as that was the deal when I signed up to it originally. From that point of view this is a step backwards.

Same - and I don't see the point of the $25 Familyshare option either. Doesn't sound that good unless you're a high talk user.

The family share option already existed as $29/month/number.
It's useful for people that talk, text, and use data, and also want to have everything on one post-paid bill.

The only advantages I see is if you a high talk user and need the unlimited talk time, that and the one bill.

Otherwise you're better off signing everyone else on the $19 prepaid pack and data share with them. They get the same unlimited text, talk time is limited at 100min but they get their own 500MB data before data sharing.

And you save $6 per month per extra user.

If you are all high data users and within zone, buy a 12GB Data Zone pack for $99 which gives you 6 months to use it.

I have been hoping they will lower it to $20, but with unlimited calling included they probably won't. For my use case I know that I can get over 100 minutes on most months so it works out better to have a share everything plan with an add-on.

I managed to score myself a sweet deal of $69 plan with 15% off every month for the life of the contract, and an add-on to the plan worth $29/month free for the first 12 months.

I was hoping for a little more data on the $19 combos.  Would love to see 1GB.

This was back when they were doing a promotion that if you had your internet with snap and your mobile with 2degrees you would get 15% off your plans for both.

At the same time they were also running a promotion where if you signed up for a Share Everything plan then they would give you the first 12 months free for the add-on person.

I was lucky because the two promotions only coincided for a few days and there was no T&Cs against combing both promotions.

I'm sure the $49 plan is going to hit the sweet spot for a whole bunch of people...

Trade Up sounds like an interesting concept, but need to see the list of eligible handsets and i wonder if you can change from say an iPhone to a Galaxy...

I was hoping for slightly sharper family deals, the price point is still a tad too rich for me, I can share my data pool across multiple sims right now at no extra cost but to share my unlimited texts and minutes costs me an unlimited plan plus $25/user, I would rather just share my existing plans rollover minutes/texts like i can share the data already

Interesting they are trying the non-contract phone option, I remember when Vodafone did this around 2001 I think and released everyone off contract at once

Good to see the new plans - quite competitive. No wonder Vodafone is offering 5GB on retired Smart 1 plans (have yet to receive the offer - otherwise it is very tempting to switch to 2degrees).

24 month phone contracts are ridiculous - some relationships and jobs don't even last that long.

The new business plans are absolutely crap, more expensive and less minutes/data than residential.

Am i understanding trade up correctly below?
Get $1k phone interest free. $41.66/m for 24 months
Go on $49 a month plan.
$10 trade up fee
$120 one off.
Pay $49 + $10 trade up fee + $41.66/m for interest free component = $100.66 per month
Then after 12 months, pay $120 one off fee, get the new device = 1327.92
Continue paying $49 + $41.66 for the last 12 months (and another $10 trade up fee i suppose if you plan on getting another new phone after that?)

$1327.92 in the first year + $1087.92 in the second year = $2415.84 for the use of two phones over two years and the cost of the plan.

Previously to get a $1k phone for free you had to go on a $99/m contract for 24 months, which is close enough to the $100.66 as per above. Interestingly, the plan allocations now match exactly - $99 plan is same allocation as new $49 plan.
$99 * 24 = $2376 for one phone over two years, unless you decide to sell it yourself and and buy a new one outright.

~$40 extra on the new system over 2 years, and no large payment on the second device. So it seems to be the same sort of value, but just with more flexibility (and complication) and more freedom (no contract). Can anyone verify or correct the above?

Edit: fixed some calculation above, but on phone so may have made errors

^^^ One would assume you are required to hand in the original phone so you pay approx. $1360 over 24mths for a $1000 phone and end up with a 12mth old version of same or similar phone?

You could possibly be better off buying said $1000 phone on 24mth term and sell it at the 12month mark pay off outstanding and resign a new 24mth MRO? The return on a 12mth old phone these days must be close to or greater than half its original value

OMG they are utter rubbish, we were considering switching to 2 Degrees from Spark but this has just made the decision a whole lot easier. Pay $12.75 for an extra 0.25gb of data - i don't think so.

Why have they done this?

And that makes no sense to me at all!

There seems to be no advantage at all to paying the extra and being on a business plan. Nothing but disadvantages. That has surely got to be the shooting one's self in the foot part of the new plans?

Yeah, i edited my post to say "for the use of 2 phones", since you obviously don't get to keep the first after trading it in.

Its basically instead of you selling your $1k phone for $600-800 12 months later, you pay $240 flat fee for that upgrade - provided you can keep it in good condition.

How it works

Step 1
Pick one of the following handsets and get it interest free over 24 months:

  • iPhone 5s
  • iPhone 6
  • iPhone 6 Plus
  • Samsung Galaxy S5
  • Samsung Note 4

Step 2
Opt in for Trade Up for just $10 per month, available on a $49 Plan or above. After 12 consecutive payments, you're eligible to Trade Up to the latest smartphone.

Step 3
When you want to Trade Up, bring in your existing phone (that's in good working order and has no screen cracks), pay a $120 Trade Up fee, and then choose the latest smartphone that's eligible for Trade Up to take home.

Seems simple enough but does this mean i can sign on for a 5S and then 12mths later swap it for a Note 4 or does 2D determine what the upgrade is at the time i.e. 6-->6S, S5 -->S6 etc?

Can't imagine too many people being happy with getting a brand new version of their existing phone in 12mths time :P
