jarledb: "A major development regarding the future of the business" sounds ominous to me. Are they being bought by someone? Shutting down business? Changing business model because of losses?

Or am I the only one that think that was worded in a less than positive way?

Buying an ISP and entering the "landline phone and Broadband" markets would be a major business decision. Buying Snap makes lots of sense.

...or are they taking a lead from the Telecom/Spark brand transition and changing their name to "Numeral"?

NonprayingMantis: yep agree.  If they were buying somebody - like Snap,  then I'm sure they would say something like  "an EXCITING major development" or something like that.

This is an industry where a minor price drop is an exciting major development, and even price increases have a similar positive spin on them. Could be anything really.

The Snap buy-out seems the most likely. Snap hasn't exactly been delivering on their "everything new" promise, and it's possible it has just been delayed while this deal was done.

Whatever it is I hope its good news for them as they have been instrumental in driving innovation and reducing costs and on all the networks, and I say that as a VF mobile customer.

Likely candidate is the Snap acquisition (or another ISP?)
Second guess is they have been bought out by an international player.

Also, can someone with a NBR sub say whether there's any new suggestions in here? http://t.co/nRXdcyDjJc

The NBR speculation end up in the same position as here: a landline play with either Snap, CallPlus or MyRepublic.

Still, rumours.

google Caching is freakin awesome

story that has somehow disappeared (so could be removed because it was wrong, or because it was right), but it still exists on google cache, so here is the link

http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:e3UhQ3-GCFIJ:telcoreview.co.nz/story/2degrees-no-not-sold-buying/+&cd=4&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=nz

" 2degrees is expected to announce on Monday that it has purchased Snap Internet for $26 million, including $10 million in cash. The Kiwi telco is announcing ‘a major development regarding the future of the business’ on Monday morning. Discussions between Snap Internet and 2degrees have been underway for some time according to some in the industry. Last week the deal was believed to have been awaiting final shareholder approval."

etc etc

(ETA:  actually it seems to me the whole of the telco review site is down, for me at least, so maybe they haven't pulled this story at all)

His contract was ended at the end of 2014, hence the reason he's no longer in the ads.

This link works http://techday.com/story/2degrees-no-not-sold-buying/

There's actually not a lot of information there, but the fact they provide a purchase price lends some credibility.

All TechDay infrastructure seems to be a bit unstable lately - in the last week or so their sites can take anything from 30 - 45 seconds to load to not loading at all. They need some help there.

Behodar:
freitasm: Will keep this thread updated but you can obviously speculate :)

Don't mind if I do!

2degrees bought out by Skinny. Spectrum being used to roll out a shiny new EVDO rev B network, complete with WAP portal and a range of Blackberry devices.

Oh wait, you wanted sensible speculation?

Edit: Not as fun when three of you swoop in while typing surprised

No, latest is Skinny is a MVNO of Vodafone, as they are promoting being on the largest 4G network; unless of course 2degrees have overtaken the other two and now have the largest 4G network.
