dan: if your going naked DSL id also choose bigpipe over orcon ;) im sure the bigpipe guy would also check your address and see if orcon is full of it.

usually we don't know if something is port waiter status without actually placing the order. But sometimes it does show up.

Happy to take a look though (although may not be till tomorrow as I'm  going to head home for the day in about 20 mins - my boss at home requires my presence)

If you could check that would be great.

As for changing to Snap. The only problem is that if i was to swap over and I am just a port waiter i would lose my place in the queue.

For now i am getting Orcon to tell me exactly what the problem is. They said the can find out in a couple of days. So like someone has mention it might just be a case of VDSL not being available.

PM me the address.

yes, if you are a genuine adsl port waiter you will lose your place in the queue, but since you only went on the queue a few days ago it's not likely to make any difference at all.

OP has PMed me address.

So nothing on the chorus portal that would suggest port waiter (but as I said before that doesn't mean it definitely isn't one - you often don't know until the order is placed)

OP can get ADSL, VDSL and UFB at his address.

(It's a large MDU though at the 'consent required' stage, so UFB in reality could be anything from 3 months to a year or more away from actual working connection.)

OP is served off a whisper cabinet (i.e. a newer one, which would also point to ADSL port waiter being unusual)

Yea i have spoken to my property manager and fibre is still 6 months away because of body corporate etc.

So i suppose i will wait for Orcon to get back to me about what is wrong and if they still tell me I am an adsl port waiter i will try another provider

I found this old thread, which makes for interesting reading.

http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=49&topicid=146899

a bit of random back and forth (and classic TimA posts)  but the gist of it was the that person moved to a cabinet very close to the OPs cabinet, and ended up port waiter status for VDSL and ADSL with a wait time of 100+ days, but then turned out it was chorus database wrong and there were, in fact, ports available for ADSL.

Cold be the same situation here maybe....

That defiantly seems like the same situation.

I hope that Orcon provides the same service as what he was provided. Seem like he only found the answer after a lot of searching.

Maybe the best course of action is to pester chorus to actually find out if i can get adsl?

You can't pester Chorus. You aren't their customer.

Been meaning to respond to this. Yes I have got my connection sorted.

I can't really say what happened in the end. I just got a phone call a couple of days later saying they were coming to set up my connection and that was that. laughing
