The modem password can be different to your online acc password. The password is displayed as 4 stars in the fritz no matter how long it is.

Factory reset is under - system - back up - factory settings

Did you get online? what made the tech believe you can get online?

I got back online with the fritzbox. But I have not tried again with the genius router, as I do not know the password for certain. when i am more certain of the pw I will try the genius router. Any idea how I can get the password from the fritzbox router? At the minute I just can't afford to be offline for a period.

Also I just noticed that my line rate speed is gone down to 5Mbps from ~9Mbps for downlink, since this change.

If you can't remember the pass you will need to call 2deg, there is no way to pull it off the fritz

I was able to get 2degrees fibre connected with a Mikrotik hap ac lite (https://mikrotik.com/product/RB952Ui-5ac2nD-TC).

I wasn't able to get my Vodafone Ultrahub connected, seemed to refuse to stay in PPPoE mode no matter what was selected. Stuck on "Connecting".

For the Mikrotik, these settings helped:
- WAN is "ether1", plug in the fibre box here
- Use a bridge
- Set up a new VLAN interface with tag 10 and link it to interface ether1
- Manually add the 2degrees DNS servers 202.37.101.1 and .2
- Add new PPPoE client, connected to new VLAN interface, entered 2degrees broadband user/pw
- Set new NAT rule, chain: srcnat, out interface: pppoe interface, action: masquerade

Aside, to get my Chromecast to work reliably, I needed to:
- Enable UPnP
- Enable WMM on all the WiFi interfaces

Happy to provide a (password redacted) copy of my Mikrotik config for anyone needing help with this.

Speed seems really good with the Mikrotik. The ethernet ports are only 10/100 but the throughput is still excellent. Great wifi signal strength for such a little unit.

2degrees standard fibre is 100/20 mbps, seems to handle it pretty well. I like the Mikrotik for the stability, have used it previously as a wifi repeater and it was rock solid.
It is unfortunate that the WAN port is 10/100, still not too much of a limitation with the 2d 100/20 fibre.

Yup got the usual firewall config too

I bumped the thread because it was one of the top ones I found when searching google for using a 3rd party modem with 2d fibre, so it seemed like a good place to add more info to rather than starting a new thread

that actually will net you some speed loss.

BS2a is over-provisioned so that you can get full 100/20 on a speedtest but as the port is limited to 100mbit, it will only be about 94mbit.

ontop of this depending on how 2d's profiles are configured there can be a fair bit of lost performance from such a setup. (you may or may not notice it. it's often hidden pretty well)

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

In case you're interested, speedtest reports:
Ping ms
11
Download Mbps
79.92
Upload Mbps
20.15

For what I do (searching stackoverflow, photos to flickr, stream the odd movie over chromecast - pretty much my life) this is probably well adequate for me
