hio77: Your on a naked connection, so logically the best solution is simply cat5e straight from ETP to your jackpoint, Use jelly crimps in the ETP ofcourse rather than than soldering iron!
Personally i would use a cat5 jackpoint - or even straight up crimp the end, using a RJ11 in the fritz's wan is rather ugly.

This would quite simply give you a clean line from the ETP, As mentioned it looks like a borderline connection but not everything quite lines up.

Would likely set you back a fair bit less than paying for a Master filter!

Always a chance your line will simply still have a fair bit of crosstalk on it though..

I have even had people go as far as to be sure they have worked with me in an isp! But no, im simply passionate about this, Likely put that passion into action at some point!

There were a few random phone cables sticking out of the floors in two of the bedrooms. They were pretty messy, some wires exposed and were wrapped tightly on some coax cable (I think for the satellite, which we don't use).

Ive cleaned those up and saw a slight increase in speeds.. not much, but not nothing either:

edit: well the upload speed is better... the download is slightly worse.

Ild put that change down to a slight difference in bitloading.

You have resynced later in the night when the noise would be a little lower.

Just a few additional points about your situation.

- Lincoln Road in Masterton is direct feed from the exchange - any 'cabinets' as such (like the one around Villa St) are on the UFB network not the copper network.

Most of the copper network along Lincoln Road was/is constructed using 15 pair terminals installed up poles (1930s-1970s telephone network architecture) which are 'T'ed off the main cables. Most of these terminals have at least a 5 to 10pr overlap (multipull) with the previous or next terminal along. - this type of architecture has no to limited effect on voice but plays havoc with xDSL.

Even though you were told that fibre would take too long to get connected, in the long term that is the best solution for Data. I dont know why you wernt offered this with a xDSL solution to get you up and ruinning while you where waiting for the install, instead of just saying it would take too long and leaving it at that?

In terms of what we offer for VDSL, it is correct that we don't offer a physical installation if a master splitter and jackpoint with this service. If you wish for us to arrange for wiring, we can certainly do this, as you've mentioned the cost is $199, however this is the wholesale cost that Chorus charge for this work, we don't profit off that at all. In many cases it is a bit cheaper to get a local sparky to do it, or if you have the know-how DIY it.

If what InstallerUFB has mentioned above is accurate, it sounds like the main drivers behind the lower than expected speeds is the quality of the copper in the street (there are likely multiples/cable loops and a lot of crosstalk) coupled with the distance to the exchange.

If you can get that info to me in PM, we can run some tests and find out for sure.
