sidefx: @sorceror: That man knows what he's talking about ^  Reflections from unterminated stubs, etc

as before would love to see a citation.

multiples/reflections on the line kills the VDSL, filter or no filter. seen plenty of examples with multiples where a filter install has done jack all.

That article tells me why wiring is important - and I completely agree. a POTS filter however, is a separate subject. The article only mentiones filter installs as it's a part of the premise wiring process.

From the article:

A master filter does exactly the same job as a plug in filter – it’s a low pass filter that splits voice and xDSL signals. What it does differently is eliminating all of the internal wiring issues discussed above, essentially isolating your xDSL from your home wiring...

...While plug in filters are not needed as there is no need to split voice and xDSL signals, a naked xDSL service will still continue to be impacted by premises wiring issues that can only be eliminated by the installation of a master filter or disconnecting all other internal wiring so that only a single jack point remains connected for the xDSL modem.

I have exactly the same issue when moving to a new house. ask for VDSL and pots connection. The agent said that no master filter is required, but will install one if needed at my cost.

They are right, I just use my adsl filter. no issue. I get ~up /down  70m / 12m.

Good on ya Jupiter. Unfortunately, I didn't risk it and had the service cancelled and came back to spark. Sadly, I just got a call from Spark this morning saying that Chorus has refused VDSL saying my line can only have adsl. So, I'm not really happy with how things have gone. UFB if I apply will be connected February (so it might be worth a shot).

Silly question, had I chosen to stay with 2 degrees and carried on until the service is up and running, do you think it will be the same story? Again, 2 degrees was provisioning VDSL and activating it remotely. Whereas Spark needed to get in touch with Chorus to book a tech visit. I am so not looking forward to ADSL having been on VDSL for three years..
