What sort of load do you currently put on the poor thing?

2000 connections with an 500 per torrent limit now turned down to 1500 connections and 250 per torrent

Ouch, That's high. Ubuntu pegs Both my connections (loadbalanced) with ease at 10~20. One line struggles a bit a peak, but that is what that particular ISP does to torrent traffic.

For a public swarm, i'm not surprised... but ill simply say, sub 100 connections pegs a 10G link where applicable.

1500 is the stock setting for qBittorrent so you're recommending I turn it down even more then OK I'll give that ago see how it goes not that the connection gets anywhere near what it should be

Ouch really? qBT i dont tend to touch.

I work with RTorrent and Deluge solely out of both business case and personal preference.

I would recommend looking a the tunning params within libtorrent (what qBT actually uses backend) however i'm not sure how accessible that is.

Overall though, for hitting 300mbit down, you need a Network that can handle it (consider tcp packet loss etc although publics you do have udp too) and a computer up to the task - Once again, i'm not up on qBT, Not sure if they support libtorent 1.2 async yet.

Assuming they are not ready for it (very recent development so i expect not) all your connection handling is on the same thread

Going back to the original topic, large connection counts are harder for QOS to manage as it is trying to Queue the traffic while being 'fair' to a point still.

Personally, i have Two ADSL links here.

I have very advanced Queuing setup, running on a full x86 Dual core instance. At peak loads, it can struggle a tinybit. That's way more horse power than your average or even upper end modem!

If orcon have supplied the router, and supply the voice service and it is breaking up when you use the internet then put it back onto orcon to solve. This is unfortunatly what happens when ISPs are cheap and use their own hardware for a voice service instead of the chorus ONT voice ports.

If they cant resolve it then it gives you a reason to bail on the contract as nowhere did the advertising say that your phone usage was at the mercy of keeping your internet usage to basic tasks.

well I'm using the system in my sig so it should be more than enough to handle (the onboard nic is an intel gigabit chip connected to the PCIe bus at x1 2.0) this same system apart from the SSD's and 2400MHz DDR3 ram have done fine with VoIP and qBt's default settings through ADSL2+ (14.5D/1U) and VDSL (42D/7.5U) all using VoIP first it was the black genius modem/router and then the NF4V on VDSL neither of those had any problem maintaining sufficient bandwidth for VoIP whilst Torrenting

I did save the config for the fritz Box and whilst going through it I noticed that none of the bandwidth reservation settings for SIP have any amounts written in them maybe they forgot who knows I'll change the settings in qBt and see how that goes if it's still misbehaving I'll ring Orcon and put it on them
