Same thing here - No go on any Youtube live streaming on any browser and tried ONT reset and a different router: it's at their end, and it's hella annoying!

Bigpipe Fibre also: seems to be a Fibre related issue NZ wide - sister's is doing the same after I got her to check it, she's on Bigpipe also.  I'll put a feeler out to Josh at Bigpipe, see if he knows what's going on: super annoying, can't watch my Florida Eagle Nest Cam! lol.

Try their mobile platform (Android, iOS app), this seems to only affect through browser.

Can confirm that it's definitely browser based also for me: the streams work fine on my phone, but not really a fix... could this be a geo-based stuff up at YT's end?

Ads work differently on mobile/TV Youtube, so I'm sticking with it being related to ads (e.g. it failing to load one.)

This may be aimed at us. I got curious and did some experimenting. I kept getting the 5-second cutoff on browsers. Then I started Tor, got an exit node in Germany, and suddenly YouTube live stream works perfectly! Whatever is happening may be specific to NZ IPs. Maybe someone else can find out more.

For what its worth, a music stream I normally run on my TV is today playing in something that makes the text about 2 pixels high so possibly 144p or something. Sound is fine.

It normally plays at the 720/1080 whatever fine so I think live things are messed up.

Just got the same result from France. I think it will be the same everywhere. I tried with the Opera VPN but then I just get a YouTube logo. I assume the Opera VPN is well known and is being blocked. I don't have another VPN as I use DNS proxies for geo-circumvention. If someone here has a proper VPN it could be worth testing to see if other countries work normally. It is also quick and easy to install Tor but that shouldn't be used for prolonged viewing as it eats up bandwidth that is intended for other purposes.

I couldn't resist installing a free VPN trial to test this further. Country checks confirm that the VPN is working correctly but I still get the YouTube stream interrupts. The only thing that works is Tor. I don't know what is making the difference unless it is Firefox, which I never normally use. I suppose I will try that next.

Yeah, I've tried a few, nothing works. I've had to resort to using Twitch to watch what I want (if available, ofc). Just going to have to wait

Okay I tried Firefox and that didn't make a difference. The only thing that works, for whatever reason, is Tor. Maybe someone else can take this further.
