old3eyes:
Aloha: I encourage everybody who has a SIM from abroad and roaming here in NZ at the moment to manually search for the network in your mobile and try to choose them if you can access.

We tried with a VFNZ SIM and obviously "access denied". But at least people with local SIM can search if they can see their network and post here the result.

I can definitely see (and use) their network in Parnell, Auckland.

Will a VF Ozz SIM work??

Doubtful. But seeing as its a brand spankers network, you would need to try it and see, as there is no built up experience or history with this network yet.

Now the all-important question: what's the extent of their coverage? Would love to be able to draw a map...

I would try with my AAPT SIM (AAPT use the Vodafone Network via a wholesale agreement), but in this weather, I'm not going anywhere!

I can see 'NZ24' in Auckland (Westish); but can't connect to it with a Telstra SIM.  I'll try from the CBD later.

Does anyone else see the humour/irony in the fact that NZers are travelling to a specific cellphone tower(s) to become overseas roamers?

/me would laugh his head off if the calls cost $20 a minute.... keep us posted!

I'd thought about that :) - wonder what the charges will be.

I dont see any humour/irony in this. Maybe it's my non-humour day today. :)
Noone needs to make any calls while try to roam on this network, especially not a minute or more..
Getting a $20 charge per minute is not a joke tbh. $20 a minute charge from a company which hasn't launched yet commercially is more of a legal issue.

It would be good to see if other people could connect too to the "new econet" network, not only me with my Optus card.
I wonder if they haven't set up properly their network (forgot cell barring for example) or they just simply made it open for overseas travellers.

And while I was writing my last post my phone got disconnected from the NZ COMMS network. :)
All I can see now is Vodafone NZ in the search.

They found the "bug" and closed the network. :) End of story/topic. :)

Didn't see their network in CBD (waterfront) or the airport.

Yes, the Optus roaming agreement is commercially activated. Roaming tests with various other operators, including other Australian operators, are completed but not yet opened up to production.

You will never be able to roam onto the NZCL network with a Vodafone NZ SIM, for reasons that should be fairly obvious. :-) Outside the exclusion zones (which basically cover the AKL, WTN and CHCH CBDs) NZCL subscribers will be able to roam onto Vodafone 2G.

Currently NZCL is planning to operate on the 900MHz, 1800MHz and 2100MHz bands.

Thanks for the forum!

Seems we have an official word from NZCL. Welcome!

Could you tell us when will be the official launch?
