Hi Duncan,
Thanks for the clarification.  I would very happy to help you out.  Thanks for asking.
  • Is it to an International site only or all sites?
    • Appears to be International Sites only at the moment
  • Is it when you are surfing the web or when playing games?
    • Downloading content.  Surfing appears to be unaffected (with respect to http traffic)
  • If gaming, what game are you playing?
    • N/A
  • What is the ip address of the server you are experiencing slow speeds to?
    • 74.86.160.107, 69.73.141.130
  • What ports are you running it on?
    • 21/80
  • It would also be great if you could run a traceroute to the affected site and send us the results.
    • Will do a traceroute when I get home.

FYI, I have no issue with accessing these sites and their content at work (I know this only verifies that I can actually download the content and does not directly help)!

On second thought, might not be a good time to try to tracert or download anything tonight with Fedora Core 9 just being released Smile
Any local servers with it on Orcon (cough, 64-bit please, cough) Smile

Cheers

Sorry Duncan,
I might have jumped the gun there a little bit.  I've just noticed Orcon have now updated the system status page (whereas it was still stating Orcon still had an issue this morning). Embarassed

I will test properly tonight Smile

Just verified it works at work!
Something is still broken. Have sent an email to the support email as requested Duncan.

Thanks.

Almost all international downloads are still either very slow (3KB/sec average) or refuses to download at all (stuck at 0%). Downloading files on NZ-hosted servers all works without problems.

Example sites include http://ftp.mozilla.org (Downloading nightly Firefox builds) and downloading the newest Skype software at http://www.skype.com/

Like BigGuy said, Regular HTTP traffic works just fine.

Glad to see I am not the only one speaking up about this problem, was beginning to wonder about the use of this forum.

Trying to download Nokia PC Suite.  Web page loads fine from http://europe.nokia.com/A4579163.  Download does not http://nds1.nokia.com/files/support/global/phones/software/NokiaSoftwareUpdaterSetup_en.exe.

This is the exact behaviour I've been having for over a few weeks now.

I've already logged a ticket so wont bother logging another and would expect Duncan, that you will collate any further information from here and pass it on.  The Orcon automated email system indicated I would lose my position in the queue if I submitted any further data (time to change to a better problem management system!).

PS:  still waiting for my call that I was meant to receive on Friday Orcon (first ticket) Tongue out

Duncan

In answer to your questions, here are my responses:

- Access to all sites is OK. Downloading anything is impossible
- Only when downloading. Down play online games
- Any site I can download from. At this moment in time, 207.46.232.182
- 80
- traceroute - see below

To give some idea how bad it is, I started a download 56 minutes ago. It took 5 minutes for the Save dialog to appear. As of this time I have downloaded 1.24MB with a transfer rate of 390 bytes/Sec. The time remaining is sitting at 89 hours 30 minutes, but it's been sitting at 89 hours for the last 40+ minutes (obviously a Microsoft maximum time limit!)

Results of the traceroute are as follows:

Needless to say, I am aborting the download as it's a waste of my time.

For what it's worth, I am on the Zeroshock plan and have used 1.72GB according to your site, and have one week left of the time period.

I live in Paraparaumu, and the router gets switched off every night.

The router reports a downstream speed of 8128 kbps with line attenuation of 18 db and a noise margin of 14 db. The upstream speed is 160 kbps, with a line attenuation of 5.5 db and a noise margin of 25 db.

Without saying too loudly I suspect that Orcon may have fixed the problem.

The NASA tracker is working, My Wondoz updates have all downloaded after being qued for several days and my Apple  QT trailers downloaded finally at 3.4 Mbits after no progress for days..

Time will tell..

skewt: my downloads for anything with extensions exe, rar, zip or similar are either not working or less than dialup speeds

lucky for me however i have a rapidshare account and in rapidshare if you turn on direct downloads it downloads with the .html extension, instantly starting the download and bypassing this crap limit orcon have placed..which proves they are doing it
the other night after doing this for a while, i couldnt connect to rapidshare.com (port 80 was blocked?) while everyone else i asked could...this lasted about 2 hours

This is exactly the problem I am having with orcon I just joined up a week ago as well. Peak time it is slow or doesnt even start and offpeak its fast.

What pisses me off is orcon denying they are blocking anything with a .rar .exe .avi .zip etc...

Yea that is a bit strange, I have the same thing when I go on a proxy when my international speeds are slow, they pick up then, really weird, but im sure Orcon isn't blocking .exe .rar.... files on purpose.. I hope!

And even if they don't say they have any issues on there site, at least they are here "trying" to fix the problem.
