If Vodafone were smart they would focus on the marjority of the market who don't care about an $80 "unlimited" plan. Offering family plans with shared minutes and data for an affordable price is an untapped market that no carrier in NZ has really nailed yet. In the US it's the normal way of buying a phone package.

Only reason I'm using sharing on my hotspot is because for all other purposes that number sits in secondary sim as a backup data & Alternative contact number.

Ironically i spend more on that 1GB shared plan than i spend on my Prepay plan with 3 times the data - Last sales call i had from VF to get me on monthly had me laughing, simply did not have the same value..

Surely it's time for Vodafone to stop sitting on the sidelines and make a change to their plans? Closest they have is $99.99 for 15GB....

Both Spark and Vodafone, to a degree, have one hand tied behind their backs.

They both still do 24-month contracts and use high data allocation combined with phone subsidies to tempt customers into signing onto them. If they increase their open-term plans data allocations, then the attractiveness of the 24-month contracts nosedives and would eventually die off due to lack of interest from the public.

Last I heard, those contracts make them more money than open-term, so they have to be careful with how they respond to anything that 2degrees does (who don't have to worry about this because they killed off consumer contracts long ago).

Not really, they've been pushing open terms way harder than their 24 month ones for the last couple of years. EG when flagship phones like the Note 8 or iPhones come out they say pay this off over 24 months with one of our Open plans. The 24 month plans are just there on the sidelines

I don't think it's bad at all You get a free data SIM for a tablet/hotspot/stick and then $19.95 per user for unlimited calling and shared data is pretty good.

That's way better value than you'll get in the US.

Have to say good to read the end of the post Steve, all to often its the but you get better value in Australia, US etc ...

The last few years NZ Networks have not been doing to bad I feel and now with the latest round of plans, ... its good to be mobile these days

That's a bit of a loaded question. Every network will have strong spots and weak spots. For obvious reasons I'm on 2degrees, but I can honestly say that nowadays the only places that I have coverage issues are the same places I would expect to have coverage issues on Vodafone or Spark as well - way out in the sticks. And with RBI2 even that will no longer be the case because the partnership will essentially share the radio infrastructure evenly between all three of us so our RBI2 coverage will all be identical.

Do I need to wait for the next billing cycle to get the 25GB ?

They changed my plan to 15GB few days ago and even though its not the end of my billing cycle until 22nd they changed my new billing cycle to the 6th and added 15GB

That's way better value than you'll get in the US.

I was looking at the spark shared plan, for 4 users sharing 4gb between them costs $149 pm.

4 single subscriptions on skinny @ $16 each , with 1gb each and unlimited calling between them, $64. Much cheaper. I guess you don't get spotify, but that is not a requirement.

I agree that we are better than the US, they are 10 years behind us in plan complexity.

And I know a spot in Glendowie, Auckland with no 2degrees reception. But good Vodafone/Spark reception. Proves SaltyNZ's point. Always a good idea to do a test drive before you jump ship.
