Hi Zub,

Thanks for the invite here....so much info and good dialogue. As you are aware I'm an Orcon customer too and have rated them highly over the past year or two I have been with them. I have converted many NZ gamers to Orcon from Xtra and the like including friends and family. I should have been on commission.

Anyhow its with sadness I write of my latency problems and intermitant slow download speeds I have experienced on the Orcon network these past couple of months. Gaming has been a nightmare with lag, high pings etc... Teamspeak2 VOIP was impossible to connect to and when I finally could connect I got kicked repeatedly. Gladly the worst of these problems have gone..but it far from perfect and nowhere near what I have experienced since signing up with Orcon many moons ago. Tonight gaming got me so frustrated I left and have been here surfing forums and conducting speedtests repeatedly. Watching video multimedia such as on You Tube reminds me of the days on Dial Up. I am on Orcons MAX/Max bitstream... a premium plan....with landline calling and tolls etc.... sadly what I am paying for is not what I am receiving. To date I have been fairly patient but frustration is setting in.

Here is what I have been used to consistently from Orcon in the past and have been very happy with their speeds and rated them the best I've had.

As you can see this is terrible and far less to what I'm used to. Any improvement soon to restore me back to the top speed test image shown will make me very happy. Sorry to rant but thanks for listening.

Hi BazNZ, thanks for sharing. Added you too. Regarding latency, hoping you can contribute some data as well. Check posts 2 and 3 in this thread to see what Orcon techs have asked us to capture, so that they can troubleshoot. If you get stuck just PM me.

Duncan Blair just posted about new bandwidth coming this week so we are all hanging on with fingers crossed at the moment. Hopefully good things come to those who wait.

I love Orcon and have been very happy with them and promoted them accordingly. I've just got frustrated with recent events...Like you I'm hoping my faith can be restored.

Up until this weekend I was having no issues with AOC, but I'm now getting it as well.

Ping sitting mostly round 260 mark, then it'll suddenly spike to 9999 for a few seconds and then it settles back down usually in steps like 9999, 2450, 370, 260.

Will see if i can get some stats next time I'm on.

Thanks for the update Duncan. I see that you posted the update on Geekzone even before updating your own site (which you did immediately after) so that makes us feel special and shows that you're committed to communication. Two fonzies from me on that!

Cheers for the data Drac, I've added you to the thread too.

To everyone: I propose that we rest this thread until tomorrow to allow Orcon to complete their upgrades and iron out wrinkles. Then I invite everyone to come back and give updated data on latency in those applications being discussed here (online games and voip). fingers crossed!

A quick comment on AoC however. The fluctuating latency may be related to Funcom and not Orcon because it is being experienced equally by people all over the world. E.g. in one thread at the Funcom forums out of 324 latency examples only 9 of those were Orcon customers. Rest were from all over the world. Refer this thread: http://forums.ageofconan.com/showthread.php?t=24556 (Latest community feedback is that Funcom is working with Level3 to resolve the issue, but there are too many threads and pages for me to really keep track)

Therefore I think the best measure of change will come from monitoring latency in other games (WoW, Lotro, Battlefield, etc..) and voip apps (Skype, Vent, Teamspeak etc..). If you can contribute data from these that would be champion. Thanks for participating guys. See you tomorrow for a big weekend of gamer heaven

Like Zub I've been reading through the AoC Forums and for AoC at least it's looking like the issue is with Level3.

So fingers crossed that funcom get something working with these guys.

Quick, popped onto AoC for about 30 minutes this morning, everything was good the worst ping I got was 280ish.

Curious to see how others are finding it.

HI there - re Age of Conan - I had a very helpful email from a support guy for an Australian ISP who has apparently fixed this issue (the 10k lag spike issue).

Here's what he had to say:

"

You need to call your ISP or email them and report the issue. As a relatively new game the traffic which is produces appears to some ISP network servers as P2P which in fact it is not. The ports the data runs on for the game range from 7000 – 8000 , so the ISP needs to put an exception in to cater for the game. This will stop the constant 10k latency issues from certain periods of time ie 6pm – 2am , depending on your ISPs setup.

Ideally you need to report the issue so your ISP can find out what it is and suggest that they download the client and try it during the times you have the problems."

Duncan - if you could look into this I'd be extremely grateful. I have already raised a support ticket with Orcon more formally - I'll add this info to it.

Well didn't get much gaming over the weekend, but my testing so far...

Wow latency 300-500ms. Mostly around 350, so pretty good
AoC spikes have reduced dramatically
Vent - still getting DCs when just sitting in channel. Talking is impossible, almost immediately going into broken speech and getting minutes behind the conversation (or all overlapping). Ingame WoW voicechat is okay(ish)

Others still having vent/voip latency issues? Or just me?

Thanks for the new reports Zub. Glad to hear things have improved.

It would be useful to hear from other Ventrillo users if they are still experiencing issues. If so we will be happy to look into this further.

WoW ping is around 300-350 ms, so no problems there. Ventrilo however is still super crap during peak hours. Only started playing up for me about a week ago though, was working fine during peak before that. When I logon it seems to work for 10-15 seconds, then spikes so hard almost all conversation is transmitted about 45-60 seconds after it is said. I haven't even tryed speaking myself, because of how lagged the speech from others is.

And restarting comp, router, and vent server, doesn't help at all. Magically starts to work fine randomly after midnight (ie. fixes at 12:30, 1am, 2:30am), but only sometimes it doesn't come right before I go to sleep.

Still having issues at peak times with Ventrillo and Age of Conan as per the international speeds thread...seems some people are still having issues but there are no updates on ppl looking into it...
