FWIW after I upgraded to iOS 13 wifi calling has been flawless for me. We don’t have Android devices so I’m no help there.

If you’re messaging iOS-to-iOS, surely it just goes through WiFi as iMessage on network traffic?

Yes that works fine, it's normal SMS that the issue is with.
My wife and I have resorted to calling each other by Facebook Messenger often as that always works.

No firewall that I have control of.
The only internet we can get here is with a local WISP so there's an Ubiquiti Powerbeam on the roof that is also providing DHCP for our network.
The WISP is the one who recommended that we switch to 2degrees for the wifi calling as there's no cell coverage here, so I assume they don't have any issues with it on their connections.
We have Unifi access points in the house for wifi and there are no other issues with it.

Speed tests show about 10-12Mbps down and 2-3Mbps up.
There are no issues with out 2talk VoIP lines on the same connection.

Opinions are my own and not the views of my employer.

I'm guessing 2deg's WiFi calling doesn't support IP based SMS? Considering you don't have any cellular coverage it's why it's failing?

SMS works fine over Wi-Fi calling so does MMS

I have iMessage turned off, so they go as SMS messages (green rather than blue in the Messages app)
